I am reading reports of user not happy that their search settings, including default and one-click search engines, not being synced. If a user takes an explicit action to set a search preference (which is rare) we should respect this choice and sync it.

I'm fine in principal, but I think we will need a preference in the UI to allow the user to opt-out like they can for all other things that Sync. It might be as simple as a "Search engine settings" checkbox, but someone needs to make that call.

I think that the current "Preferences" covers that. Search preferences are Firefox preferences that should be synced if Preference syncing is on.

There is already another bug for that: bug 1174413
I would love to see those settings synced!
