This LDAP account was not created properly for Mercurial access. Specifically, the hgAccount object class was not added.

Mercurial LDAP accounts need the following LDAP attributes:

  objectClass: hgAccount
  fakeHome: /tmp
  hgAccountEnabled: TRUE
  hgHome: /tmp
  hgShell: /bin/sh

From ldapsearch output on hgssh1.dmz.scl3:
