Move "more information" into the secure site slideout instead of requiring another click

If the user is interested enough in site information to click on the site lock or (i) button they get a door hanger announcing the site is secure (or not) with a ">" button to bring up more info. But for most sites there's hardly any more info and instead the user is presented with an explicit "MORE INFO" button to get what you'd expect to be on that slide-out.
Example: to find the cipher and protocol used
Chrome: click lock, click "connection"
Firefox: click lock, click ">", click "More information", click "security" tab
2 vs 4 clicks
(also that information is presented more nicely in chrome than on our old crufty page info dialog)
Example 2: check certificate details
Chrome: click lock, click "connection', click "certificate information" link
Firefox: click lock, click ">", click "More information", click "security", click "view certificate"
3 vs 5 clicks.
Our text for an insecure site is a clearer explanation that Chrome's, and we present EV details better. For a normal domain-validated site that extra slideout appears useless -- the only information it has is the CA name, which is small enough to have gone on the main door hanger.
If our "More information" button went directly to the "Security" tab of the Page info dialog like it used to that would make us only 1 click worse than chrome, but on DV sites particularly the extra slideout step really grates because of how content-free that click was.

I filed bug 1226328 for fixing the "More Information" button target, which we should do regardless of what anyone thinks of my suggestions here.

Dan, to be clear, are you proposing that the More Info button go on the main panel instead of the subpanel?
Summary: Move "more more information" into the secure site slideout instead of requiring another click → Move "more information" into the secure site slideout instead of requiring another click

Absolutely not! The main panel is fine as it is. I'm proposing that the relevant information from the Page Info panel (and links, like the view cert button) get moved to the sub-panel, in place of the button. This will 1) save users clicks, and 2) not take people from the elegant site panel to the jarringly old and crufty Page Info dialog.
When I press ">" on the main panel I am already saying "show me more". I am annoyed when that more is just a button asking me if I really meant it (particularly true for DV sites).
The number of clicks I talk about in comment 0 is wrong: we're only one more click than Chrome, not two. bug 1226328 was invalid, due to a broken add-on I had installed that modified the Page Info dialog.

Hi Dan,
Thanks for the feedback. We have talked about adding in more relevant information that could be helpful to developers and lives on the More info modal right now but we haven't been able to follow up with any refinement tickets to that section of the control panel as we're very short resourced right now (1 front end engineer). I'll leave this ticket open but it will be in our backlog since we have other higher priority work to complete for the next 2 releases.
