This is a wierd one! Build 2002013003 (it also occurred in a build from 2002/01/29) Win2K-SP2 Address Book Click "New List" button Enter a list name and a couple of e-mail addresses Click OK Double click list name - e-mail addresses shown correctly Compose a new message Enter the list name in To: Add a subject: File->Send Later Open Unsent Messages Click on the message in the summary pane Expand the To: field in the header bar The e-mail addresses in the list appear multiple times. Now, go back to the Address Book Double click the list name - each e-mail address is listed several times This also affects existing address lists. In the e-mail header it appears to multiply the list by the number of addresses in the list. I have a list with 10 addresses in it and it adds all the addresses 10 times in the e-mail header (if Moz doesn't crash trying to open the message).
Ninoschka, can you reproduce this? This sounds like it might be a dup, but I'm not sure.
Someone else reported this in n.p.m.mail-news: From: Craig Tataryn (news@computer-programmer.borg_replace_with_org) Subject: Mailing lists, again... Newsgroups: netscape.public.mozilla.mail-news Date: 2002-02-02 14:24:15 PST Well, I thought mailing lists were fixed. But I noticed that when I go into my address book and look at one of my lists, it is blank. However, when I try to use the mailing list, it sends out my email with each person listed 3-4 times in the headers. What's going on?
This problem seems to have disappeared in a build from source CVS'd at ~21:00 GMT today (2002-02-08).
I've done some more digging into this. Both my home and work machines are running W2K-SP2. I saw the problem on my work machine, but I posted comment #3 after testing it on my home machine. I installed build 2002-02-08-03 at work today and the problem still existed. I moved my address book out of my profile dir and restarted Moz, which created a new one. At first Mailing Lists worked correctly but later started showing the broken behaviour. After a couple of hours trying to identify some sort of logical pattern to this behaviour I created a new profile and the problem has not re-appeared using the new profile. I also put a copy of the original address book on my home machine but I am unable to reproduce the problem. It appears that this is not a problem with the address book per se, but just one of those wierd things that a new profile fixes (maybe a clue is that my profile on my work machine is so old it is under Users50, not Profiles). Also, the fact that only one other user, to my knowledge, has reported this supports my theory. Anyway, as far as I (the reporter) am concerned, this bug can be closed.
Just in the interests of completeness; the cause was a corrupted localstore.rdf. Deleting this, thus forcing it to be recreated, fixed the problem
