User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; FreeBSD amd64; rv:42.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/42.0 Build ID: 20151125152445 Steps to reproduce: Try to download something from ftp.mozilla.org while having *only* an IPv6 connection available. There is no AAAA DNS entry for ftp.mozilla.org: $ drill ftp.mozilla.org aaaa ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, rcode: NOERROR, id: 45709 ;; flags: qr rd ra ; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0 ;; QUESTION SECTION: ;; ftp.mozilla.org. IN AAAA ;; ANSWER SECTION: ftp.mozilla.org. 22 IN CNAME d34chcsvb7ug62.cloudfront.net. ;; AUTHORITY SECTION: ;; ADDITIONAL SECTION: ;; Query time: 16 msec ;; SERVER: 192.168.0.23 ;; WHEN: Wed Jan 6 10:18:57 2016 ;; MSG SIZE rcvd: 76 It is of course reproducible via FTP: $ ftp ftp.mozilla.org ftp: Can't create socket for connection to `54.192.202.27:21': Protocol not supported ftp: Can't connect to `ftp.mozilla.org:ftp' Actual results: I could not download Firefox/Thunderbird/anything from the server. Expected results: I should be able to connect to ftp.mozilla.org if i just have an IPv6 connection.
FWIW, the reason why the FTP protocol isn't working is because it was disabled. <https://blog.mozilla.org/it/2015/07/27/product-delivery-migration-what-is-changing-when-its-changing-and-the-impacts/>
