User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; Win64; x64; rv:43.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/43.0 Build ID: 20160105164030 Steps to reproduce: This is sort of Bug 862894 reloaded (where I was told to file a new bug), maybe due to Firefox now being 64-bit. In short: System: Windows 8.1 (64-bit) Previously installed: - Firefox 43.0.2 (64-bit) - Mozilla Maintenance Service 43.0.2 - Thunderbird 38.5.0 1.) After over-installing Thunderbird 38.5.1, also Mozilla Maintenance Service reports itself as "38.5.1" in the Control Panel. => BUG! 2.) After over-installing Firefox 43.0.4 (64-bit), Mozilla Maintenance Service reports itself as "43.0.4" in the Control Panel.
Now I had the chance to also check a pure 32-bit scenario again (on a 64-bit Windows 8.1, however): System: Windows 8.1 (64-bit) Previously installed: Firefox 43.0.2 (32-bit), Mozilla Maintenance Service 43.0.2, Thunderbird 38.5.0 After over-installing Thunderbird 38.5.1, also Mozilla Maintenance Service reports itself as "38.5.1" in the Control Panel. => BUG! So it seems that Bug 862894 is back again.

In the meantime (Firefox 54.0, Thunderbird 52.2 resp. 52.2.1) the situation has become worse: Updating TB 52.2 to 52.2.1 by over-installing (with FF 54.0 64-bit installed beforehand) will now create an independent second "Mozilla Maintenance Service" entry in the software list (Control Panel\Programs and Features) - one saying "Version 54.0" and one saying "Version 52.2.1".
Still the same behavior with installing Thunderbird 52.9.0 (32-bit) over an existing Firefox 61.0 (64-bit): Two "Mozilla Maintenance Service" entries appear in the software list, one saying "Version 61.0" and one saying "Version 52.9.0". And, unlike Thunderbird, the Firefox installer still does it right: Over-installing Firefox again removes the second 52.9.0 entry.

This is due to the installer overwriting the registry entries that are displayed. The maintenance service itself isn't downgraded. Duping to an older bug for the same issue.
