==PROBLEM:== if der is a space " " in front of the outgoing mailservername (SMTP), mozilla is not able to connect to the server. (this happened cause i copy pasted the adress of my mailserver and didn't recognize that there is a space in front of the entry...) ==SOLUTION:== remove unused spaces (trim) in front and end of the mailserver entry. ==P.S.== don't know if problem also exists with incoming mailserver mfg stefan staubli
Bug 99133 resembles, but is more relevant since it is harder to spot a trailing space than a leading one. Added comment about this bug there.
Trunk build 2002-02-13-03: Winme Reproduced the problem.

Fixed by bug 99133 for the place where I would expect to run into trouble, the new account wizard, and by something else for changing an existing SMTP server, but not for the incoming server in the account manager for an existing account. STR: 1. Create a working mail account. 2. Open account manager, server settings pane. 3. Add a space before and after incoming server name. 4. Save settings, try to get mail.

The SMTP host name is now checked for spaces before saving. Space characters lead to the error message "Please enter a valid hostname."
