User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; rv:43.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/43.0 Build ID: 20160105164030 Steps to reproduce: I'm a helper on the Support forum. I do not have an outlook/office365 imap account so cannot offer personal experience. There have suddenly been several reports that imap folders are disappearing. They have not been able to either select or reselect the missing folders which do display in the list when you click on 'Subscribe'. It seems to be only effecting outlook.com/hotmail/Office365 imap mail accounts. Sometimes only one or two folders do not display, but others have experienced all but Inbox and Deleted disappear. This seems to effect Windows and linux OS see links: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1105470 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1105453 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1105490 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1105553 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1105844 http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=2985395&p=14483021 Actual results: when you click on 'subscribe', you should be able to select folder and it appears in the Folder Pane. sometimes the folder is already selected and sometimes it is not possible to select. but it does not display in Fodler pane. Expected results: Would not expect the previously selected as subscribed fodler to disappear. Would expect to be able to select folder in list and for it to appear in fodler pane. I have been advising people a work around which seems to allow people to reselect to subscribe to folders. 'tools' > 'Account Settings' > 'Server Settings' for the mail account or Right clickon mail account name in Fodler Pane and select 'Settings' select 'Server Settings' for the mail account click on 'Advanced' button uncheck: 'Show only subscribed folders'. clickon OK click on OK to close Account Settings window. then try to subscribe again. Right click on mail account and select 'Subscribe' See if this time you can select the folder. click on OK Quoting one feedback: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1105844? "The above appears to have worked and my folders are now displayed. However if I click on subscribe then none of the folders are actually ticked as being subscribed to. "
agreed, there have been a crazy number of these posts in recent weeks.

I reported this today also. The fix suggested doesn't work for me. Even after re selection the folders do not remain selected. When I untick "Show only subscribed folders" and then open that pane the folders are all still visible. We run Windows 10 Thunderbird 38.5.1 server is outlook.office365.com all folders except inbox and deleted dissappeared and I can see them all in the subscribe window just can't get them to stay selected once ticked
Summary: Imap subscribed folders disappear, difficulty in subscribing. → [outlook.office365.com] Imap subscribed folders disappear, difficulty in subscribing
Can confirm, this happened to me as well. I have Thunderbird on both Windows, and Linux - and yesterday afternoon - both copies went from working perfectly normally with subscribed folders - to not working at all. All subscribed folders vanished except for inbox and deleted items. Going into the subscribe dialog - all folders are still visible there - checking the boxes for subscribe - has no impact what so ever. After closing the dialog and reopening, all of the subscribed checkboxes are once again cleared. The only way to see folders, at present, is to go into the advanced dialog, and untick the "Show only subscribed folders" option. Note, this only impacts one of my office365 accounts. I have an additional office365 account where subscribed folders is still working properly. It does not impact my gmail accounts, nor my outlook.com account. It would appear that microsoft is rolling out a change across their office365 systems that is breaking thunderbird. On both my Linux and Windows system, my version is 38.5.1.

This issue is acknowledged by Microsoft to be an issue with their implementation of IMAP. Incident EX41924 refers The attachment is a HTML version of the information they have posted at http://www.o365dash.com/ which I think might not be available once the incident is closed. This bug can I think be closed as invalid, but leaving it open a day or two might reduce the dups. At this point this is the pertinent information; Preliminary Root Cause: As part of our efforts to improve service performance, an update was deployed to a subset of code which is responsible for obtaining the subscribed folder list. However, the update caused a code issue that prevented the list from being automatically loaded. Next Update by: Saturday, January 23, 2016, at 2:00 AM UTC
I went through backing up my mail folders and recreating the account, copying everything from a previous user, copying the profile, reinstalling etc etc before finding this bug. The work around is to tools' > 'Account Settings' > 'Server Settings' for the mail account or Right clickon mail account name in Fodler Pane and select 'Settings' select 'Server Settings' for the mail account click on 'Advanced' button uncheck: 'Show only subscribed folders'. clickon OK click on OK then try to subscribe again. Right click on mail account and select 'Subscribe' See if this time you can select the folder. click on OK You can still not subscribe to folders, but they now show up after you try to subscribe. Thank you very very much Anje for the work around and creating this bug.

The same problem hit me this morning: all folders on an IMAP account at cern.ch went missing; I can re-subscribe temporarily, but after the next restart, as soon as Thunderbird connects to the mail server, the folders disappear again. The workaround proposed by Anje and confirmed by Ronald is very good as a start, thanks! Now there are several folders appearing that I never use (Contacts, Calendars, Conversation History, ... they only make sense with Outlook or the outlook web interface). Microsoft does not allow those to be deleted, very annoying... is there a way how to actively not display those? Thank you and kind regards!

I'm running into this issue with Outlook365 now. If I enable "show all folders" in the advances settings, they are back. It seem I can't save any folder subscription. I can set a check mark, but nothing happen.s And it is gone a once I open the subscription dialog again. Sadly, there are no error messages anywhere, neither is I start TB in the console to see stdout/stderr or in the error console.

I have more or less the same problem - specifically: Only a subset of my outlook.com folders showed up on creating the account (automatically, as IMAP) and no further folders are shown when I try to subscribe (pressing "refresh" there) - whether or not I activate the account-setting "show only subscribed folders"

Found this very recent bug which seems closely related if not duplicate https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1714572
