this happened to me earlier this evening with win2k 2002021503 - mozilla
crashed, and on reloading my global history had been cleared.
i think this may be a dupe of (or related to) bug 102519

I have experienced this problem from 0.9.5 up to 0.9.9. It's still a problem.
Mozilla leaves history files open. If another app, other than Mozilla, crashes
your machine, you will (sometimes) lose ALL history. Upon reboot, my DOS version
of Norton Disk Doctor (which takes over the function of scandisk on a 9x
machine), will always find a mozilla file to be damaged, and it will also find
lost chains to be repaired.
How hard is it to open the history, write to it, and close it???? Please fix
this before 1.0.

I'm gonna mark this a duplicate of bug 102519 - lots of people there reporting
exactly this problem. I have to note that I don't get this problem on W2K
despite having a system that crashes regularly (I think there's a hardware
problem but can't track it down) - probably because NTFS is quite resilient.
