User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; rv:46.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/46.0 Build ID: 20160502172042 Steps to reproduce: Windows Vista OS. Using 'Windows Aero' and colour appearance 'Graphite'. title bar is disabled/not showing. Actual results: The far right 'min' 'max' 'close' buttons are partially hidden by the background behind the tabs. Expected results: The trio of top right 'min' 'max' 'close' buttons should remain fully visible if Title Bar is disabled/ not showing.
Component: Untriaged → Theme
I need a screenshot of the whole header to see why this part isn't tall enough. Also weird is that it works in safe mode. Maybe the user has something in userChrome.css.
Here is my screenshot of the bug...
Joecuppo, thank you for the screenshot. But as I wrote, I need one with the whole header part (or maybe better the whole titlebar) from the window inclusive the toolbar below the tabs. An other question, do you use a userChrome.css or other extensions? If yes, could you list them?
Here it is... I am not using userChrome.css or any extensions. I use Lightning—I cannot recall whether that is an add-on or an extension. Thanks!
Thank you. Does this only happen in maximized mode or also in window mode? I have only Win7 and can't reproduce this issue. Again, you wrote on SuMo in safe mode everything is okay, correct? Could you attach the output from Help > Troubleshooting Information? Maybe we could find the culprit.
Both. I do not know what SuMo is. Perhaps you are thinking of another user? Anyway, yes, it looks fine in Safe mode. I will send you a .TXT file via email. I would prefer that to posting the info here.
(In reply to joecuppo from comment #7) > I do not know what SuMo is. https://support.mozilla.org > Anyway, yes, it looks fine in Safe mode. I will send you a .TXT file via > email. I would prefer that to posting the info here. I saw no special pref that could harm the appearance. Sorry, this is a bit like digging in the dark, but could you try this: - go to your TB profile (simplest through Help > Troubleshooting Information, click the "Show Folder" button, explorer opens). - Close TB - Rename xulstore.json to something like xulstore-old.json - Start TB Renaming xulstore.json resets all window appearance settings like position, customized buttons etc. but does not change account settings etc. So you have to position the windows as you want. If this doesn't help, you can, with closed TB, delete the newly created xulstore.json and rename the old, renamed file to the original name. Then all is like before.
> Renaming xulstore.json resets all window appearance settings like position, > customized buttons etc. but does not change account settings etc. So you > have to position the windows as you want. Hello I've got the same problem with the title bar. As for me that reset with the xulstore.json didn't work. The background is still messed up.
Yes, j.skud is correct. That did not help. The new 45.1.1 update did not fix the issue either.
I have this issue too.. I have just installed FF 49.0.1 on a fresh install of Win 7 x64, and the top right buttons.. Minimize/maximize & close are all faded out.. so much so that I can only just see the minimize and maximize buttons. If I minimize the window or even just make it a tad smaller the buttons appear all clear again.
Anje, do you still see this when using newer OS and Thunderbird?

Performed a test using: Windows Vista OS (Sorry could not test Win7 as lappy gone foobar) Thunderbird version 52.9.1 (32bit) Using Thunderbird default theme. Changed Windows OS appearance to using Aero and Graphite. Tabs not in focus nor hovering over have a slightly clouded effect for background. Disabled the Titlebar. Result: See same issue where the clouded area is now partially covering the mini, max, exit icons. As if buttons are partially behind the clouded tab zone. Restarted Thunderbird in Safe Mode. Issue disappeared. Restarted as normal and issue did not reappear. I did not attempt to disable any addons etc as not required. I did not clear any files from the profile name folder. Enabled Titlebar and exited Thunderbird. Restarted TB, disabled titlebar and all is still ok. Performed a few extra switching titlebar on and off resetting various Windows OS appearance etc. Tried minimising, maximising window, and various in between. Restarting Thunderbird in Safe mode, may have reset something which remains ok even after switching back. The min, max and exit icons now remain on top of the clouded area which is immedately behind the tab zone. But to test whether SAfe Mode actually sorted this out, I retested again. I can now reproduce this issue at will. Whilst Thunderbird was open and running. Change Window OS appearance back to Windows Vista Basic and default and Restart Thunderbird. Whilst Thunderbird is running, change Windows OS appearance back to Aero and GRaphite. Now the issue immediately returns without closing and restarting thunderbird. So it would appear changing the Windows OS Appearance does not force Thunderbird to refresh leaving the min, max, exit button partially behind the cloudy tab zone, as if not layered above. Exiting and restarting Thunderbird (not in Safe Mode) cleared the issue.

Does this reproduce on OS newer than vista?

Severity: normal → S4

The Aero theme was removed from Windows OS, although I do believe it is possible to get that glass effect from the official download page of Aero Glass.
There is now a 'Transparency' option which has very little effect in general.
I'm running Thunderbird 91.2.1 and it is not showing any issues regarding the Title bar and min.max, close buttons.

Excellent, thanks for testing.
