Which was the last working version? What is your mail server?
I am also encountering the same problem since Thunderbird updated to version 45. Upgraded to 45.1.1 and still having problem. Was last able to download as of early in the day on 30 May. Problem only occurs with SSL on port 995. If switch off SSL, am then able to download. SSL works fine in Mailwasher. Using Microsoft firewall and latest AVG anti-virus if that's any help.

So you're saying: TB 38.x worked, TB 45.x doesn't? We enforce SSL/TLS 1.2 now, check whether your e-mail provider supports this here: https://www.htbridge.com/ssl/ Otherwise there are ways to reduce security. Look at bug 1274175 or add your mail server to the list of insecure fallback hosts: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1056325
What was the latest version as of early on 30th May? My Thunderbird updates automatically so have no idea what version I was using yesterday. When try downloading SSL emails, get message saying "Connected to (server)" and gets stuck there and nothing downloads. Will pass the SSL/TLS message to provider.
(In reply to Jorg K (GMT+2, PTO during summer, NI me) from comment #1) > Which was the last working version? > > What is your mail server? My last working version was 45.0.1. my mail server is mail.gbc.co.ke https://www.htbridge.com/ssl/?id=6057375c19a852dffddc65a51b6be1362719ed9d974b1ba642386395c2221726 I'd like to point out, the issue is only affecting one of my email addresses. Two other emails set up on TB are working perfectly.

I'm not aware of any changes between 45.0 and 45.1, but it's well possible that the underlying Mozilla platform made changes to tighten security. An "F" rating for that server is not great (mine has an "A"), so that might well be the cause.
I'll get right into it and see how far this goes. Thanks Jorg
Changed my security settings and it everything went back to normal.
