Steps to reproduce:

Requested the public FTP URL to a large .sh file , e.g. ftp://ftp.gmu.edu/mathematica/Mathematica_10.1.0_LINUX.sh

It seems that for some FTP servers Firefox will correctly go straight to the download instead of trying to view a .sh file.


Actual results:

The browsing tab slows down and doesn't load , presumably because it is attempting to view the large .sh file as text in the browser instead of forcing it to download.


Expected results:

Firefox should have forced the file to download instead of attempting to view it in the browser if it is too large to load without freezing the tab.

From what I understand, comment 0 requests that we download files that are very large, instead of displaying them.

I guess it doesn't necessarily need to force download for large text files , but there should be a check for the content size so that it doesn't consume enough memory to freeze the tab like it does with that example I gave.

It wouldn't be a good idea to force downloading of ALL large files since some types , e.g. mp4, could be very large but also would be expected to be rendered through a plugin or in the browser.
