There should be an API to access and edit logins saved in the browser. There is no corresponding chrome API, however it is useful as an extension if you don't have to ask a user for his username or even credentials again to pull info from a service. Of course this should only be done if the service allows for automated identification.

This was also supported with a high-level module from the Add-on SDK.

Hello,

it looks like it remained an experiment and did never make it into firefox. That leaded to the situation that after 3 years of missing this API all the password editor, manager and import/export tools for firefox ceased to exist.

I vote for re-open this issue until it's actually fixed.
