Overview: Change contents of a card in the main AB and those changes are usually
reflected in the results pane when the list is selected in the dir pane. They
are Not auto reflected in the Mail List diaog.

Steps to reproduce:

I. Change Display Name
1. Create a card with FN, LN, Display Name and Email address (Jane, Smith, Jane
Sith, janesmith@test.com)
2. Create a list and autocomplete with the same entry
3. Select the AB again and edit the main card and change the FN, LN or Display
Name (i.e. Jill Smith)
4. Select the list in the dir pane (notice that the change is reflected Jill Smith)
5. Now select the Properties dialog and the old name is still there (Jane Smith)
6. Close/reopen the list and now it states the correct name (Jill Smith)
Expected Results: After step 5 the entry should be updated with the most recent
changes (i.e. Jill Smith)

II. Change Email Address
1. 1. Create a card with FN, LN, Display Name and Email address (Jane, Smith,
Jane Sith, janesmith@test.com)
2. Create a list and autocomplete with the same entry
3. Select the AB again and edit the main card and change the Email Address
(janesmith2@test.com)
4. Select the list in the dir pane (notice that the change is reflected
"janesmith2@test.com".
5. Now select the Properties dialog and the old email address is still there
(Jane Smith)
6. Close and now the results pane displays another card with only the old email
address "janesmith@test.com" (yet the card in the main AB as the latest changes).
Switching between the AB and list displays the same results.
Expected Results: Step 5 should display the changes in the email address
(janesmith2@test.com).

III Delete Card
1. Create a card in an AB (i.e. Jane Smith)
2. Create a list in the AB and autocomplete to the same card (Jane Smith)
3. Switch back to the main AB and delete the card
4. Select the list and now an empty card appears in the results pane
5. Switch between the AB and the list and now the empty card is gone
Expected Results: Step 4 should not display an empty card.

Hi,

Changes I make in my address book do not always "stick" - but sometimes they do. For example, I may have an entry for "Good Friend" (first name Good, family name Friend). The e-mail address for his person might be "gfriend@isp.com".

I have the option on that will cause me to add an address book entry when I submit a reply to someone, so if Good Friend sends me an e-mail and I didn't have his address already, just sending a reply will make an address book entry. Right now I have an entry in my address book from a friend to whom I sent a reply. The name I see for the entry is "gfriend". When I open up the properties the only box filled is the e-mail address line which says "gfriend@isp.com".

Since I know this is the e-mail address of Good Friend, I add in the first and last name "Good", and "Friend". I have the option turned on to show the name as "Last, First" but the entry in the properties panel puts in "Good Friend" as the display name. I clear this out and click on OK.

Now in the list of entries, I see "Friend, Good" displayed. Bringing up the properties again shows first name, last name and e-mail address and nothing else, which is what I expect to see since that's all I put in.

I close the address book and open it again and I see the entry as expected and the properties are as expected.

Now I close and open Thunderbird. Frequently, but not always, the changes I made are lost. Just now, when I did the exercise, I kept Good Friend, but a change I made Friday(!) has now reverted back to the way it was before I changed it Friday! I actually USED the address I fixed Friday this morning to send an e-mail to the person and now the change I made Friday is lost. I was not looking for it but the change BACK may have happened when I sent the e-mail.

I have no idea how to go about doing more for this problem but I'll try anything you suggest. I suspect that the problem comes from attempting to capture an e-mail address that is already in the address book but WHY it would change back to a deleted version of the entries is beyond me.

Let me know how I can help and I will try.

Sincerely,
Doug Ray
