Build ID: 20160606114238
Steps to reproduce:
This is not a bug report, this is a feature request. Here is the scenario:
- I receive an email with many tiny and not so tiny images embedded in it, for example in the signature (phone icon, mail icon, company logo, etc.)
- I reply the mail
- I want to get rid of the images for two reasons:
a) to avoid wasting bandwidth, some company logos are dozens of kilobytes huge and
b) because of Bug #532395 (never ending "attaching..." message).
For this, I have to click each image and delete them one by one.
This is time consuming and sometimes it is hard to identify where the remaining image is if they are transparent or they resemble a letter.
Expected results:
I would like to have a button in the toolbar with "Remove embedded images" functionality. If I press it then all icons and other images should be removed from the mail body. This would help a lot in my every day usage and would make it easier to live together with Bug #532395.

Woudn't it be better to just fix bug 532395?
Severity: normal → enhancement
Depends on: 532395

Point a) of comment #0 is still a good reason to have this feature.

Severity: normal → S3
Note: there is an add-on called stripImages which does exactly this: https://reviewers.addons.thunderbird.net/en-GB/thunderbird/addon/stripimages/?src=search
That one deletes only the images of the emails you compose.
It would be nice if I could delete the images of incoming emails as well.
For example, if somebody sends a 1MB embedded "Merry Christmas" image to a large mailing list, and everybody replies that email with keeping the original image. Within two days, I get dozens of emails containing the same huge image. I would love to erase the image from all of them because I don't need it but I may want to remember who replied the mail thread and what they wrote.
