/new As a potential Firefox user who wants to download Firefox for a specific locale or platform, I want to be able to see all available Firefox download version options, so that I can download the version that best suits my needs.

First pass at the variations is up on a demo:
https://bedrock-demo-jpetto-fxnew.us-west.moz.works/en-US/firefox/new/?v=1
https://bedrock-demo-jpetto-fxnew.us-west.moz.works/en-US/firefox/new/?v=2
Would definitely like mham to consult on the UI (particularly for the modal), but would be good to get a thumbs up from jbertsch on the broad strokes first.
:jbertsch - Can you check out the links above to make sure I've got the spirit of the request correct?

Hey Jon!
Yes. You have the spirit of the request correct! One question/request: I'd like to make sure we show the Win 64 button to windows users who might be looking for that option in the overlay. Can we do that?
Thx,
Jen
PS Yes asking mham to work on the modal is a great idea.

Hmm, the Windows 64-bit button wasn't there when you tested? It's there for me - second from the left. I'm hoping you just missed it - otherwise we have another bug. :)

Michael - When you have a few free minutes, could you take a look at the links comment 1 in a non-Firefox browser?
The subtle changes are the smaller links underneath "Firefox Privacy". In the ?v=2 version, clicking the "Download Firefox for another platform" link opens a modal with a bunch of download options. I'd love a little direction to make that button party a bit more visually appealing.
Thanks!

Sure thing. Taking a look at it now – that is quite the soirée.
First thought was to hard break between Windows 64-bit and OSX then between Linux 64-bit and Android creating 3 rows, putting the two mobile options on the last row.
Another thought is to explore using dedicated buttons created for this modal, similar to the Google Play/App Store buttons that are uniform in size. Willing to mock this up if we want to try this out.
May find another option as I'm fiddling with it in Sketch.

We can certainly achieve this, and I like the idea of the logical groupings.

We can definitely make the buttons (which are actually just links styled as buttons) uniform. However, I don't think we could use all logos, which probably means we shouldn't use any logos.
I'm happy to jump on Vidyo if you want to walk through any ideas.
Thanks!

jpetto: two changes from team discussion this AM
1. remove ios and Android blue buttons - they are redundant with the big app store buttons already there
2. add "for XXXXXX" where XXXXX is the user's current platform under the green "download" button
thx!

The requests in comment 8 have been incorporated and are now up on the demo server:
https://bedrock-demo-jpetto-fxnew.us-west.moz.works/en-US/firefox/new/?v=1
https://bedrock-demo-jpetto-fxnew.us-west.moz.works/en-US/firefox/new/?v=2
:mham - Take a look at the updated modal and maybe we can get a jump on the sprint and meet tomorrow briefly to talk about UI suggestions.

I've incorporated Michael's designs into the WIP branch on my demo (see comment 9 for URLs). I think it's looking really good!
A couple notes:
1. I did not group the Windows download links into their own column in the modal. This can be done, but will require a bit more JS hacking.
2. The "for {your OS}" text was moved from under the button to above the button. Michael and I felt it flowed/read much better this way.
I'll pick this up when I'm back on Thursday, but feel free to do any UI/functionality reviews when ready.

Nicely done. I'm going to share with Verdi who is interested in expanding Win64 downloads. Will have any additional feedback collected before Thursday.

Blocking the Win64 meta bug 558448 because the redesigned download page will help more pre-release channel users find and test 64-bit Firefox.

Jon, this bug is about redesigning the /new download page. We have another bug (bug 1278315) about fixing some minor issues on the /channel download page. Are there plans to use this new /new design for the /channel page? Or can we go ahead and make the /channel page tweaks suggested in bug 1278315 (restoring the "Firefox for Other Platforms & Languages")?

Ack, bugzilla's UI is...sometimes hard.
Anyway, as the change in title suggests, this bug is to test a couple different ways to expose additional platform downloads to the user. It isn't really a design change, save for adding a single link underneath the download button. In variation 1, this link will send users to /firefox/all. In variation 2, it will open a modal containing download links for Fx release on all supported platforms.
AFAIK, we don't have any concrete plans for /firefox/channel at this point, though we've all agreed both it and /firefox/all need work.

Thanks for the clarification. Whichever of the proposed methods for linking from the /new page to the additional platform downloads you select will adequately address the Firefox team's concern about users finding the 64-bit Firefox builds.
btw, the Firefox team has decided to also provide a choice between 32- and 64-bit builds in the stub installer itself (bug 797208) so users won't need to hunt for the 32- or 64-bit builds on the /new or /all pages. Thus the urgency to make the additional platform downloads more discoverable is somewhat lessened.

jpetto:
feedback from Verdi:
1. Label the "Windows" and "Linux" links as "Windows 32-bit" and "Linux 32-bit" since these should be links directly to those versions of the installer and this is what the person in this overlay may specifically be looking for.
2. Change the order of the links so the left column has the most popular stuff and linux is by itself in the right hand column:
Windows 32-bit
Windows 64-bit
Mac OS X

I've updated the text for Windows and Linux to read "Windows 32-bit" and "Linux 32-bit" respectively.
https://bedrock-demo-jpetto-fxnew.us-west.moz.works/en-US/firefox/new/?v=2
I've also updated the order of the list items to keep Windows, Windows 64, and OS X on the left side, leaving Linux and Linux 64 on the right.
Note that these changes are a bit of a hack, and are brittle. Details of the links (text, URL, etc) are provided by product details, which lives outside of bedrock. It likely wont happen very often, but if the data in product details changes, our customizations to the names/sort order may fail (though the links will still display).

The /new download page design does not block the 64-bit Firefox roll-out. The new page will help increase awareness of 64-bit Firefox, but the 64-bit option in the stub installer (bug 797208) makes the new page no longer a blocker.

What percentage of visitors should we send to each variation? I'm thinking 25% to each, meaning 50% of en-US visitors will get a variation. Does that sound right to get a large enough sample in one week?

This should be enough to see if we have had an impact, however one change is that it would be good to have a double control.
So this would look like, 50% see the current, 16% see variant A (with the pop up), and 16% see variant B (just a text link to /all) and then 16% see the double-control.

Based on conversation with pg in IRC, we will use the following audience segmentation:
v=1: 3%
v=2: 3%
v=3: 3% (double control variation)
