In the account settings window: 1. Choose SMTP and create another SMTP server so you have more than 1. 2. Choose an account, click "Advanced" and try to set the SMTP server for that account to be the one you just made. The server made in (1) does not show up in the menu in (2) - even after a restart. The only way I'm able to use different SMTP servers is to set the default SMTP. This is really inconvenient.

Trunk build 2002-03-13: Mac 10.1.3 This is working for me.Is this still happening in today's build,is this a migrated or new profile? What version of Mac X are you running?

I'm also running 10.1.3 and I tried with 20020313. Still doesn't work for me. The profile is > a year old and I *think* made with mozilla, not migrated. As for the accounts, I have 2 SMTP servers. Still, only one shows up (besides "Always Use Default") in the pop-up menu in Account Settings->Advanced. However, there looks to be a blank item below the last item in the menu. If I pick the blank item, that still doesn't do it. Bhuvan, If you can't repro this, I'm happy to put in some breakpoints and look if you tell me where.

I have the same problem (3 Accounts: 2 POP, 1 IMAP), only two SMTP server show up when I try to set the outgoing mail server for the second POP account. (The drop down contains several blank entries). When editing the list of available SMTP server all three show up.... This is with 1.0 RC 2 on W2K and Win NT 4.0 (I have seen it with Netscape 6.x as well)

This problem still exists with Mozilla 1.1a (Linux, Build ID: 2002061108 but I tested it with Win32 there was the problem, too. So someone should change "Platform" from "Macintosh" to "All". Further, I'd concider the priority of this problem quit urgent because there are lot of pop3 providers which do NOT allow email relay so you can send emails only with one of your accounts!

Setting "Platform" and "OS" to "All" Felix, thanks for confirming this elsewhere.
OS: MacOS X → All
Hardware: Macintosh → All

Yup, I am getting this same problem. WindowsXP build 2002071608. Really annoying :(
Seeing the same or similar problem. Entering more then one SMTP server and doing advanced doesn't allow OK to be selected. Windows XP 2002071508 Frustrating

I'm using Gecko/2002081204 for 1.1 Still the same behaviour: can not use third smtp server. Though server may be added it will never shows up in smtp server choice list. Empty line will be displayed instead. Very inconvinient. I would rather lift up severity little.

Also confirmed on Gecko/20020826 on Windows 2000. C'mon guys, this pretty basic functionality. I started to switch from Outlook Express but can't because the multiple SMTP properties is seriously foobar'ed. Why isn't this bug a higher priority? I really *love* the mail client- especially when integrated with Enigmail. It looks and functions great overall. However, many, many users won't switch until this is fixed.

This bug relies to 140440. To me and a lot of friends and colleagues this is a really annoing bug, as switching SMTP addresses is crucial and most SMTP servers do not allow relaying. PLEASE SOLVE THIS ISSUE, as it stops us from switching from Micro$oft to Mozilla!!! Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.1) Gecko/20020826 1) OK button is not functional at "Outgoing Server (SMTP) settings" 2) Cannot chose SMTP server for each account, always default server is used

This bug is missing a reproducable test case. Until it has one, there is unlikely to be any progress.

1. Go into Mail & News Account Settings -> Outgoing Server (SMTP) -> Advanced 2. Add some mail servers. 3. Go to one of your mail accounts -> Advanced. Result: The servers you have in the Outgoing Server Prefs are not available to select. Only the default one shows up in this list.

This is what this bug causes. Note that the server in the Advanced Outgoing (SMTP) Servers dialog is *not* available to select in the Advanced Account Settings.

Works for me using the recipe in comment 14. The image in attachment 101934 [details] appears similar to the behavior for bug 140440, whose recipe requires one to add and then delete SMTP servers.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.2a) Gecko/20020910 bug still in there why you don't set up the smtp servers for each mail account seperate like the pop3 servers in each account ? that would be very easier an i think the most of us use different smtp servers for sending mails a pop bevore smtp option for authenticate would be very useful, too

This attachment contains my prefs.js file after several changes made to the mail settings. Break it apart at each "// This is a generated file!" line. There should be 8 revisions. It appears that the dialogs handling multiple smtp server entries are unable to count. This bug appears in Mozilla 1.0.1 and in Netscape 7. The problem I am running into is that it fails to create and manage the line about smtp authentication. All users of Mozilla and Netscape are unable to use my smtp servers since I added SMTP authentication. The following is a brief description of how I can recreate the bug. version 1 works, I created first new account, fixed username to be email address. version 3 is broken. I deleted an account and re-created it. Note the presence of smtp2 object, without an auth line. version 4 I deleted the second smtp server. Note the one line presence of smtp2 object in the default server for the identity. version 5 I activated smtp auth on the one existing smtp server, but note the smtp server for this identity is still smtp2 version 6 I tried changing the default server via the advanced options on the "dgm@osprey.net" account name line. Now there's nothing in that line. version 7 I created a new smtp server, without smtp auth turned on. Now when I go to the advanced settings on the identity to select an SMTP server, it has default server, a seperator, a blank line, and the new smtp line. Selecting the last entry, the one that actually printed out a name, causes the prefs.js file to make smtp1 the default object. version 8 I turned off the smtp auth on the main smtp server screen. Notice that it changed the smtp1 object, and the program now sends mail fine without using smtp auth. But now the advanced button on the smtp server tab has THREE entries in it. ????

John G. Myers writes, > This bug is missing a reproducable test case. > Until it has one, there is unlikely to be any progress. Here is a detailed test case that is reproducible for me under Mozilla 1.2.1 (Linux) from a clean environment. The key appears to be having two SMTP servers that have the same hostname and username but different ports. I assume some duplicate-removal code is ignoring port numbers. 1. start from a clean environment (I did "rm -rf ~/.mozilla" in a test account) 2. run mozilla (I'm using 1.2.1, Linux) 3. Window -> Mail & Newsgroups (account wizard appears) 4. leave "Email account" selected, click "Next >" 5. enter name "Moe", address "moe@stooges.zz", click "Next >" 6. enter Incoming Server: "popserv", Outgoing Server: "smtpserv", "Next >" 7. leave User Name as "moe", click "Next >" 8. leave Account Name as "moe@stooges.zz", click "Next >" 9. click "Finish" 10. click "OK" on "Failed to connect" alert box 11. Edit->"Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings" 12. select "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" 13. click "Advanced..." (see "smtpserv (Default)" listed) 14. click "Add..." 15. enter Server Name: "smtpserv", port 2525, uncheck "Use name and password", click "OK" (see "smtpserv:2525" listed in addition to "smtpserv (Default)") 16. click "OK" on "Advanced Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings" box 17. back in "Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings" window, select moe@stooges.zz account 18. click "Advanced..." 19. note that "Server:" menu only offers these two choices: Always use default server smtpserv

Hello world! At first i like to apologize my bad english, but it is necessary for me to settle this problem. I am working with mozilla 1.2.1 and Win 98 (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; de-AT; rv:1.2.1) Gecko/20021130) I am using two accounts (gmx and web.de) and need two different smtp-settings. If i want to choose the outgoing smtp (account-setting-->advanced) i´m only able to choose "always use default server". There are no other entries althought i have them in "Advanced Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings". I can solve the problem and see my server-accounts next to the default server if i uncheck "Use name and password". At least it is the same thing in ------- Additional Comment #21 From Darrell Kindred 2003-02-05 20:55 ------- But there is more i found out. The checked "Use name and password" isn´t the problem. I can use any name i like with one exeption! The " @ " ! If i use the " @ " only or in combination with a name, the entry for outgoing server disapears. I am hoping that this could help. There is no IE (deleted with 98lite)or outlook on my PC (mozilla is my only choise) and it is necessarry for me to use different accounts.

I believe mine bug isn't exactly the same as the current one but as it looks really similar I am reporting this info here. Any SMTP server defined through the advanced window in the "Outgoing Server(SMTP)" preference session with the "Use name and password" checked will appear as an empty line in the advanced window for SMTP selection in the account preference session. If you uncheck the "Use name and password", it will appear correctly.

Sorry for the contracditory info but somehow I have only seem Comment #21 now. Neither names with "@" nor with "%" work. Other options like my whole email with a . in place of the @ do work so the problem isn't size related but probably unexpected character related (@ or %).

Rodrigo, what build do you use? The problem @ produces blank lines should have been resolved a week ago (see bug 86370).

Seems to be fixed in Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de-AT; rv:1.4b) Gecko/20030507, I've checked with all of my 4 Pop Accounts changing the server to an other one and to default server. It is also restart resistent so updateing perfs.js works fine for that part.

It should be fixed, since this is a dupe og bug 86370 which is fixed. If it reappears please reopen bug 86370 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 86370 ***

This is not a duplicate of bug 86370. The screenshot I attached in comment #15 was produced without having any usernames as described in bug 86370, although it is merely an academic point since it is working. However, it is entirely possible for this bug to resurface without bug 86370 resurfacing.
