Screenshot attached. Expected results: The character is invisible in previous versions of firefox or other browsers.

It's a change from bug 1099557. that was fixed in Firefox 43, but the feature (displaying stray control chars) is enabled only on non-release builds, so it's visible only on aurora and nightly. IIUC, chrome is also going to enable it (bug 1099557 comment #23). there are some tech evangelism bugs (bug 1282690, bug 1220462, bug 1282815), so this would also be a tech evangelism bug, but in that specific case, rendering the control char seems to be expected behavior...
