Steps to reproduce:

1/ Go to https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/337ec302-a997-48ea-b6e7-e15ed9dd7ec2/-hexadecimal-value-0x03-is-an-invalid-character?forum=winforms

2/ Using firefox 50.0a2, you should see a weird character between the double-quotes in the solution answer: a square with the numbers 0003 (see screenshot)


Actual results:

A square containing 0003 is visible between the "". Screenshot attached.


Expected results:

The character is invisible in previous versions of firefox or other browsers.

It's a change from bug 1099557.
that was fixed in Firefox 43, but the feature (displaying stray control chars) is enabled only on non-release builds,
so it's visible only on aurora and nightly.

IIUC, chrome is also going to enable it (bug 1099557 comment #23).

there are some tech evangelism bugs (bug 1282690, bug 1220462, bug 1282815), so this would also be a tech evangelism bug,
but in that specific case, rendering the control char seems to be expected behavior...
