User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:48.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/48.0 Build ID: 20160823121617 Steps to reproduce: I am using Thunderbird with IMAP account and MAILDIR folder. In preview pane the images embedded into the mail are not shown. Also if I open the message in a new windows the images are missing. If I save the message as EML file and I open it from windows filemanager the images are visible. I attached a file with 3 jpg: the first with email show in preview pane, the second with the email shown in a windows from thunderbird, the third (with images shown) is the email saved as EML file and opend from file e3xplorer. I also attached the EML file.

Works fine for me with the message you supplied. Can you try in safe mode, that is, with add-ons disabled (see Help menu). Now, you're saying that you're using IMAP. The message contains some traces of MS Exchange being used. So are you really using IMAP or perhaps ExQuilla to connect to Exchange? Then you are a victim of bug 1282081. I see no reason why embedded images wouldn't show in IMAP or local folders regardless of whether mbox or maildir is used.
I use a linux sever (Dovecot for IMAP and Postfix for SMTP on our Fedora sever) but the sender use MS Office 365. I restarted TB with all addan disabled but the images are still not shown.
Please also try on a new profile (start thunderbird -p to create one). There are some IMAP settings (part on demand, part size threshold) that may affect this, although I doubt it. Normally TB should always fetch *all* inline parts. I honestly set up an IMAP account with maildir storage yesterday and your message shows just fine. In the end it comes down to logging IMAP (https://wiki.mozilla.org/MailNews:Logging) to see why the parts aren't fetched.
Summary: thunderbird does not show embedded images → Thunderbird does not show embedded images (IMAP, maildir storage, dovecot server)

Please note: Bugzilla is NOT a support forum. It is a tracking system for bugs in Mozilla products. This is a support question. You can get support here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/products/thunderbird That said, it's really hard to say how to clean/refresh your profile. Firefox has such an option but Thunderbird doesn't. The difference between an old and a new profile is that the old one can contain add-ons (or leftovers thereof), you might have changed preferences or there is some erroneous content in one of the databases that are part of your profile. If I sat in front of your machine, I could attempt to clean it, but without seeing it, I can't ... which brings us back to paragraph one of the comment. I might be easier to keep using the new profile. Since you're using IMAP, e-mail will just be retrieved again from the server. It is also possible to move the message store from the old to the new profile. But here we're getting back into "support territory".
I understood what is the cause of the disappearance of the images from my emails. I have filters that move the message from inbox to other folder. With the new profile (where the filters are missing) I view the inbox mails and the images embedded are show. If I apply a filter that move tha mail into another folder I dont see the images.
Interesting. How is the filter defined? And what happens if you move the message manually? The only thing I can think of is that the message isn't moved correctly or not completely. Are you moving to an IMAP or local folder? If IMAP, does the target folder have synchronisation enabled? Right-click, Properties, Synchronisation tab. What happens if you repair or compact the folder?

(In reply to p.felotti@gmail.com from comment #9) > If I repair the folder the image is show Interesting. Looks like a problem caused by filter move, maildir and IMAP. Do you happen to have an account with mailbox storage? Does it happen there?
