Whiteboard: Add Thunderbird of Kabyle locale to the dashboard and plan the release
Hello,

Is there something new? We look to release Thunderbird Kabyle. Is there any plan? any further work to do?

Thanks for help
Hi! Thank you for translating Thunderbird into Kabyle! Unfortunately there are still various missing strings in the strings shared between Firefox and Thunderbird.

Please make sure to translate the strings in the "tbshared" folder of https://mozilla.locamotion.org/kab/firefox/
Flags: needinfo?(philipp)
Hi! Thanks. Translation will get complete soon. Please let this bug open for one or two days more.
No rush, we will keep this bug open all the way until it is enabled in the dashboard. Thanks for taking care!
Hi,

Translation of "tbshared" folder is complete! Please, let me know if there is further work to add.
Hi again. Just to know what to do to release Kabyle version of Thunderbird. My community is asking. Is there any plan? any date?
Does Thunderbird release follow the same cycles as Firefox?
I hope to look into this soon, I am currently swamped with other parts of life so I can't promise quick turnaround. Thunderbird does major releases when Firefox does the ESR cycle, everything else is just a beta. Version 52 is a major release which will be in string freeze soon, so we should definitely get you on to that train.

Please ping me if this doesn't move forward in the next two weeks.

Hi Is there any new about Thunderbird kab release? :)
I've finally come around to this, sorry for the delay. In the following changeset I've added some basic region files needed for the repository. There are some possible values to localize there, please let me know of any changes you would like in those files:

https://hg.mozilla.org/releases/l10n/mozilla-aurora/kab/rev/04a9b6f78b34134404c79b201aa8197316855aa8
https://hg.mozilla.org/releases/l10n/mozilla-beta/kab/rev/164b83fb391d4f5ed9e04260edb0ddd6b056d1ed

In addition, I've added it to all-locales for Thunderbird/Lightning:

https://hg.mozilla.org/releases/comm-aurora/rev/9117be114fdb30103582d0da193f6f6f483a4f2b
https://hg.mozilla.org/releases/comm-beta/rev/1e2a9af1e761ed03646ec64389f63fa0065b659f

The changes should show up in your dashboard at https://l10n.mozilla.org/teams/kab soon, at latest with the next l10n push. If anything is not working please do let me know.

Thanks Philipp. Yes I noticed it.
I gess we will get a nigthly build today?
I very much hope so! The url should be at http://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/nightly/latest-comm-aurora-l10n/ but looking there now it seems most builds are stuck on November 14th. This seems to be a build issue again (affecting all languages), I'll inform the right people so it show up soon.
I retriggered a Linux c-c nightly but the kab locale did not show up in the results (https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/nightly/latest-comm-central-l10n/, make sure to scroll down to the 53 builds). So maybe some part is still missing here.

I just triggered a clobber, in case that helps for tomorrow.
Still no kab builds.

Is a sign-off missing for TB aurora?

Why didn't you add kab to all-locales in c-c?
You may also wish to add a kab entry to mail/locales/search/list.json.
Flags: needinfo?(belkacem77)
I signed-off for TB and Lightning Aurora.
Flags: needinfo?(belkacem77)
aleth, yes kab entry should be in mail/locales/search/list.json.
I've added it to comm-central now, I had thought it was not necessary to do so since most localization happens on aurora and below:

https://hg.mozilla.org/comm-central/rev/1d346e843af53512c9fafaa010b8f59a01e1d963

I've also added the list.json changes to aurora. Beta does not have list.json yet, so I've added list.txt to the locale. Let me know if you need changes to the search engines.

https://hg.mozilla.org/releases/comm-aurora/rev/c35b6d3cea5b5c4e8d266ddd0bff1b9c004b01c5
https://hg.mozilla.org/releases/l10n/mozilla-beta/kab/rev/336bd570c30a544cf3a2bfabd3504b634791dcdc

I'll take care of the sign-off as soon as the builds have run, you can request sign-off again if you notice this before I do (although sign-off should not affect nightly builds afaik)
Hi,

Nightly Builds are generated for some locales but not yet for kab locale on 26/12/2016 :)
Hi,

Again thanks for you support.

I have to give a speech on 07/01/2017 in Tizi-ouzou, Algeria. The speech is about Opensource solutions. Among them Thunderbirḍ. I'd like to give a short training about Thunderbird in Kabyle language if we could get the Kab Thunderbird Build.
Hey Pike, would you happen to know what we are missing to get a new locale building? The sign-off has been reviewed, I've added it to all-locales, I thought that was enough to get tinderbox/nightly builds working.

No idea really, but I did find https://hg.mozilla.org/build/buildbot-configs/log/c7394a96091c/mozilla/l10n/all-locales.comm-aurora, for no other reason than "it might have been something back in the days".

Mark?

I'm not sure why we need these files instead of using the in-tree variant, but cy/hsb/dsb were indeed the last locales added before so it looks like this is indeed the way to go.

Hi Philipp,
I don't know if it's approporiate to ask for such a help here.
I'm a user of thunderbird since years ago. Now, I have to discourse about it in my community. I'd like to organize learning sessions arround it'as usage (installation, configs, event planning....) and extension devs arround Thunderbird & Firefox.

Next January 7th, I will give a speech about Opensource tools espacialllay about Mozilla products (Firefox and Earlybird). But I'm also planning to give training about extensions dev later. It will be easier if there is online material.

Thanks,
I'm happy to connect you to the right people, we are happy to get community support like this so there is no wrong place to ask!

Thunderbird extension development generally follows the same path that legacy Firefox extensions follow. The general setup and file structure is the same, the only thing that is different is the XPCOM interfaces that can be called and the properties on the application windows.

We don't have a fancy overview of the interfaces on MDN, mostly because we don't have the amount of contributors that Firefox does to maintain the MDN pages. What I usually do is use dxr.mozilla.org/comm-central and search for ext:idl path:mail to find all idl files in the mail and mailnews directories, which describe the interfaces.

I'd suggest to open a post on https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/tb-planning to ask about further training material. I believe there are some youtube videos about Thunderbird extension development from a contributor. Feel free to mention I suggested for you to ask. If there are specific needs you have that we can't provide yet and they would benefit community engagement, we'll see if there is a way we can make it happen.
Added kab to shipped-locales so it will be in the next beta release. There are 33 missing/changed strings in beta, but don't worry about it, this will fix itself in the next beta.

https://hg.mozilla.org/releases/comm-beta/rev/40e571d396c9f81fdbc293e0485fd21476122436
I noticed kab was not appearing for c-c nightly builds. It looks like for all other locales there are builds for c-c if there are such for c-a/c-b, so this should probably be added too?

kab, as all new locales, doesn't have a l10n-central repository on purpose (they work on tools, and are bound to aurora)
