"Android 7.1 allows you to define shortcuts to specific actions in your app. These shortcuts can be displayed in a supported launcher, such as the one provided with Nexus and Pixel devices. Shortcuts let your users quickly start common or recommended tasks within your app."

Android supports static and dynamic shortcuts. Firefox for iOS has a very similar feature. Chrome already offers two options: "New tab" and "New incognito tab".

There's no one working on this. And for now this is blocked by bug 1259098 - There's some work needed to be able to use the new SDK and the new features.

This one requires at least API25, but since there's no point in bothering with that intermediate step I'll add the dependency on the target API 26 bug.
