Details

From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:0.9.9) Gecko/20020311 BuildID: 2002031104 Since i've selected my IMAP folders to be available offline (selecting as well a limitation in the download size to 50 KB max. per message) my inbox's new messages always appear as unread (bold) even if i've read them. It happens since i've set the folders offline and set the size limitation however I can't guaranty it is the cause of the problem, I may have done other things aswell... Reproducible: Didn't try
After some experiments, it appears the problems comes from the fact that Mozilla for some reason didn't inform the IMAP server the messages where read. To discover that, I've been using another IMAP client which showed me the messages as unread. I've read them with that client. Then I restarted Mozilla Mail and the mails where not marked as unread anymore. To check whether the bug was still there, I've then sent an email to myself, received it with Mozilla Mail, and when reading it, it apparently still didn't inform the IMAP server. So I'm in a mode in which every time I start Mozilla Mail new emails are left unread, whether or not I read them.
I can confirm this. I have the same problem with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.0.0) Gecko/20020530 Build ID: 2002053012
In fact, this problem is even more general than you might have suspected -- there's an older bug that pretty much covers this one. If that one gets resolved, and this still isn't fixed, then feel free to re-open this one. Meanwhile, feel free to vote for bug 119205. -M *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 119205 ***
