User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 Build ID: 20161114030203 Steps to reproduce: Firefox (night) auto-update to version 53 (build 6167). Actual results: Does not work on Windows XP - AVRT.dll is required, but does not found (Vista or newer). Expected results: I found in google, that firefox drops support for Windows XP, but firefox itself does not tells me anything. Silent update to fresh build (6167, v53 branch) results in broken installation. You should add some checks to prevent Windows XP users to update his browsers to incompatible versions. And add some messages at least.. such nasty surprise are really nasty.
Component: Untriaged → Installer
OS: Unspecified → Windows XP
[Tracking Requested - why for this release]:
Summary: Firefox update on Windows XP, no warning message → Firefox update on Windows XP, no warning message about unsupported OS
Component: Installer → Application Update
Product: Firefox → Toolkit
I changed the component, because Firefox should detect the OS is unsupported and not offer the possibility to download and apply the update.
