Description

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:51.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/51.0
Build ID: 20170126085340

Steps to reproduce:

Since the upgrade to Firefox 51 (from 50) on Ubuntu 16.10, my pages are all blank.
Firefox itself shows correctly, also the about:support tab etc, and the history overview in a new tab.

Actual results:

Webpages just show blank. They are loaded (I can hover over links for example), but the whole page is just blank.
If I run firefox with MOZ_FORCE_DISABLE_E10S=1, then it works fine again!

Expected results:

Webpage should show correctly ofcourse :)

It seems that it is another similiar visual issue like in: Bug 1334533 and Bug 1334748.
Therefore it seems that something is wrong with webpages display after Firefox 51 has appeared.

Thanks for taking the time to report this!
Does the problem still happen if you start Firefox in Safe Mode? (Safe Mode disables extensions and themes, hardware acceleration and some JavaScript stuff in order to exclude some possible reasons for problems. It does not disable plugins which are add-ons.) See http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode

And does this also happen with a new and empty profile? See http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic%20Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile and http://support.mozilla.org/kb/Managing%20profiles .

If you still see this problem in the new profile, please enter the address "about:support" in the address bar and attach (using the "Add an attachment" link above) the output for your original profile (not the new profile), as the "Modified Preferences" section could be interesting.
Thanks for your help!

Hi Andre.

I tried it in safe mode, and still happens. If I downgrade to FF 50, everything is fine also.
New profile => same issue.

In attachment the support info (when firefor isn't started with MOZ_FORCE_DISABLE_E10S=1).

THanks

Jean-Louis, could you verify e10s is enabled when your are with FF50 and graphics works normally.
Maybe a regression in e10s has been introduced between 50 and 51.

thank god i found this
hey guys, you really messed things up
i had a working stable release firefox with enabled e10s, after this 51+ update i digged up every piece of my config to find out the problem is e10s..

so these are my findings if you care:
//NO WEBGL
+e10s+hwaccell	NO
+e10s-hwaccell NO
-e10s+hwaccell	YES
-e10s-hwaccell YES
//WEBGL
+e10s+webgl-hwaccell	NO
+e10s+webgl+hwaccell	NO
-e10s+webgl+hwaccell	YES
-e10s+webgl-hwaccell	YES

So when I enable e10s and load page it just shows up blank, till i switch to another tab and then back, then page shows up, but still when i scroll it down it's blank, all youtube video control do not show, right click doesnt work neither webm nor h264.
Btw Hardware H264 Decoding also doesn't work in ff 51.1.0 x64 , everything (e10s,apz,d2d,hwaccell,h264 decode works fine and stable in ff 50.0.1)
My notebook is pretty old, but still I have all latest drivers:

Active	Yes
Description	Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000

Hey guys, come on do something, this is NO GOOD for a release.

Another similiar visual glitch case Bug 1334830, so we have 4 visual glitches bugs introduced in 51+ already:

Bug 1334748
Bug 1334778
Bug 1334533
Bug 1334830

Maybe it would be good to create some meta for all these visual glitches bugs? It seems 51+ is visually broken and I bet there will be more visual bugs come in the next days.
this may be related to some of them
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1659922

for this kind of issue on ubuntu, Apparmor seems to be related.

Jean-Louis, do you have AppArmor installed on your Linux machine?
If yes, could you test with this module disabled.

Hi Loic,

Correct. Seems to be a AppArmor issue here.
With AppArmor disabled it works fine again.

Guess we can close this (for me at least)
