Build: 54.0a1 (2017-02-14) (32-bit) OS: Win7 STR: 1) open nightly 2) set nightly as default 3) double click on a file type associated with Firefox (html, webm, pdf) (or) 3) right-click the taskbar icon and select any tab option of the main Firefox optn in the jumplist result: see attached dialog.

I'll try. I also can't open up html pages in a non-default nightly. For example, clicking on the test case html page in bug 1232191.

Hmm, finding a reression range is impossible using zip builds or mozregression since there's no taskbar integration for those builds.

Hm, I could not reproduce the issue with the latest Nightly on Windows 10. Win7 specific?

This patch will add sync IPC, but I dare to adopted this patch because I consider uplifting.

I just figured out what went wrong, I had added -no-remote to my taskbar launch shortcut for some testing and forgot to remove. Sorry for the bug spam!
