Steps to reproduce:

Hello,
I have updated my mozilla firefox into version 50.1.0 direct to version 52 due version 51 appeared high RAM Memory usage.  


Actual results:

After this update firefox appeared again high RAM memory leakage about 5-6GB of RAM after few hour. As it seems the previous bug from version 51 is not fixed but it transferred to version 52. This incident makes to downgrade my version 52 back to version 50.1.0. My OS is windows 10 pro x64 Bits.


Expected results:

Mozilla must take care about this issue and fix this bug such the users are obligated to donwgrade into previous versions. This solution is temporary such the security levels of firefox are reducing and making the users to remain under security risks.

While some memory leaks appear to be fixed in FF v 52.0, others are clearly not. As I reported in bug 1334367, these two web sites cause memory leaks on my Win 10 ver 1607 with current patches.

The leaks still occur when using FF in safe mode, so it's not caused by any of my extensions.

I loaded that page in a new tab in Firefox 52, and browsed a bit using the navigation buttons at the bottom (I went from page 1 to page 10, with enough time in between for the page to load fully). I then closed the tab, opened a new tab to "about:memory", clicked three times the buttons "GC", "CC", "minimize memory usage", with enough time between each click to allow completion of the operation. Then I clicked "Measure", and this is the result:

I had one extension installed, a blocker (I personally can't browser that sort of site without a blocker).

So according to the results, there is no memory leaks.

The problem here which prevents from going anywhere on this claimed issue is the lack of *exact* steps to reproduce, and the lack of detailed measurements.

- What did you *exactly* between browser launch and you observing a memory leak?
- How *exactly* did you come to the conclusion there is a memory leak?

Today's experiment.
I started FF in safe mode, so no extensions. Memory usage according to Win Task Manager is 186.5 MB with 20 tabs open to different sites, and only the last opened site was viewed.

I then opened http://icanhas.cheezburger.com/lolcats

Memory immediately started to climb, again according to Task Manager without scrolling the window. After 5 minutes TM reports 490 MB and is still climbing.

As I started to scroll down, a new site was loaded claiming to be a FF update, but at the same time, my antivirus, NOD32, trapped the JS/TrojanDownloader.Agent.PYN trojan and cleaned by deleting it. So, it might be that the memory climb was due to this event. I clicked the FF back button, loaded about:memory over the above link, clicked Back again, and after stabilizing for a time, memory again started to climb. It's now at 640 MB after 20 minutes from FF start up. Because of the trojan event, using this web site to claim a memory leak is problematic.

However, after closing this tab, TM does not show memory being released even after 5 minutes. I then opened about:memory and clicked three times on each of GC CC and Minimize memory usage. This action did reduce memory to 357 MB according to TM. Here is the result of the Measure function:

Next, I restarted FF again in safe mode. Once again FF started with about 186.5 MB according to TM. I then loaded this URL (an on-line magazine in HTML5): http://mrhpub.com/2017-03-mar/online/html5/#

and started running trough each page. Upon getting to the end of the magazine, memory grew to about 500 MB, but then returned to 290 MB and stabilized. I'm assuming the growth as I paged through may be due to caching in case I wanted to page back. In the time it took to write these last sentences, memory has dropped to 238 MB. After closing this tab, memory automatically reduced to 186.5, the FF start up memory with the original 20 tabs. Given this behavior, it seems this URL does not have a memory leak problem. This is contrary to my earlier experience reported in bug 1334367.

As a final experiment, I restarted FF in normal mode with my extensions. FF start up memory is now 234.4 MB. I opened http://mrhpub.com/2017-03-mar/online/html5/# again. Memory rose to 273 MB. After paging through the entire magazine, memory climbed to 592 MB. After waiting for a time, memory returned to 356 MB and stabilized. After closing this tab, memory dropped down to 241 and stablized. This is a little higher than the FF start up memory with these tabs, but pretty close.

Conclusions:
It appears that http://mrhpub.com/2017-03-mar/online/html5/# does not cause a memory leak as I previously thought. I can't explain why I saw it rise continuously before, but I also had a different set of open tabs at the time, and perhaps one or more of those was the actual leak culprit.

The URL http://icanhas.cheezburger.com/lolcats invites a trojan and cannot be used to claim a memory leak due to FF. I will contact the owner of that link and advise them of the trojan issue.

Can you please save a memory report for version 52 when you are experiencing high memory usage? It will not be possible to diagnose your particular memory issue without this. Also, it would be good to know what addons you have. It is likely some combination of a website or addon that is causing your issue.

Sorry I haven't firefox version 52 such I was uninstalled it and I using version 50.1.0. I can't uninstall and reinstall mozilla firefox every time. Please revise firefox source code. Versions 51 & 52 are appearing this issue probably the problem is related with new SSL functions updates.

My active addons are:
1. Addblock plus.
2. Disable anti-adblock.
3. Forumotion backup templates.
4. GreaseMonkey.
5. Kaspersky Protection.
6. Web Developer.

I have tested this issue on Windows 10 x64 with the latest Firefox release (52.0.1), Firefox release (52.0) and the latest Nightly (55.0a1-20170319030203) and haven't managed to reproduce it.
After installing all the specified addons mentioned in comment 6 and runnig firefox for a couple of hours, the RAM usage was normal, about 400-600 MB RAM.

I think that if you could provide a performance report as mentioned by Andrew in comment 5, can help us see what is causing this issue.

There are no critical improvements such memory leakage is remaining. I was downgraded again back to firefox version 50.1.0. Firefox version 52.0.1 also delays extremely to release memory after closing firefox. I was tested firefox about 4-5 days ago without switching off my computer.

Those orphan-node numbers are extremely high. That's about a third of your total memory usage.

When I opened the forumgreek site, the total site is about 15mb for me, which more or less matches up with your, except for the orphan-nodes.

The dom/non-window-global?!/orphan-nodes entry is also something I haven't seen before.

For future reference, you can save the about:memory report to a file and upload that instead of pasting it in. That makes it easier to read through the bug.

So, there must be some addon that you are using that is causing all of these orphan-nodes. In comment 7, Emil was unable to reproduce this issue, so maybe you have some Greasemonkey script that is causing issues?

Another possibility is that the "Forumotion backup templates" addon is causing large memory usage, but only on forum websites. Forums are showing up as high memory usage in your about:memory report.

What user scripts do you have installed in Grease Monkey?

Did you try to disable Grease Monkey, restart the browser, and see if you still have the issue?

More generally, you should disable all your extensions, restart the browser, and see if you can reproduce the issue. If not, then you need to enable each extension one by one, restart the browser after enabling one extension, and see if when the memory usage issue appears. That is the fastest way to narrow down the issue -- really this should already have been done by now.

When you quit the browser, be sure that it no longer is in memory before restarting it.

There is definitely something specific on your side causing this, add-ons are the first thing to look at.

Looks like the bug here should be a duplicate of bug 1337204.

From what I've read, disabling Kapersky in add-on manager is not sufficient, the Kapersky extension will re-enable/re-install itself after launching Firefox. It needs to be disabled from the Kapersky application itself, see https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/4v94ni/memory_leak_possibly_related_to_kaspersky/d5xgf33/#.

Nothing changed after disabling Kaspersky Internet Security except my web protection level reduced to zero.:( and the RAM memory continues leaking. Furthermore firefox is the slowest web browser against I.E, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge. Can you revise please all of your firefox's source codes and improve it? I haven't been able to reproduce this in a clean profile with no addons. Maybe the addons are at fault, or maybe you have to be logged into the forums for it to trigger.

I see very similar behavior running builds on Jenkins, though a single pipeline build page will grow to upwards of 2Gb, with over 1.6Gb in orphaned nodes. Leaving the tab up overnight, "Web Content" will grow to about 20Gb as seen in top, though this may be due to leaving several tabs open. To reproduce, I just open a pipeline build that is running, refresh a couple of times, and then wait. It grows very quickly.
This may be related to a jenkins issue: https://issues.jenkins-ci.org/browse/JENKINS-47009 but thought I'd post here becuase of the growth in orphan-nodes.
