== BACKGROUND ==
Hopefully this is of use to any Lithium staff trying to understand how our KB needs to work.
-- Product Pickers --
Historically on Kitsune KB articles were mainly written for single products.
Conceivably at a future point we could take advantage of Lithium's ability to have multiple pickers to write or combine articles for more than one product. An example would be articles on profiles. Thunderbird and Firefox both have profiles and KB articles written about them. There may at present be confusion between trying to find articles by product unless the we just browse from a product location. It may be plausible to combine some articles and have a single KB article. (Firefox Android also has a profile, but we do not currently have KB articles about that AFAIK)
Example:
- Desktop:
- Tbird:
Generally however we expect articles to be about a single product & that is how they will have been written and intended to be viewed.
-- OS & OS Versions Pickers --
In many cases modern Firefox Desktop will work and be fairly similar in major OS Versions. However some features will be slightly different in differing OSs for example Mac uses Command Keys Linux & Windows use Control Keys. Some OS versions may no longer be supported or supported only in ESR or lack some feature support.
Historically all OS are covered by a Firefox Desktop article. The pickers allows appropriate text & screenshots to be seen.
-- Fx Version Pickers --
Similar to the OS notes. Normally most users will be on the current and supported Release. However Corporate uses may be on ESR. Some users may still need to update. Some users may be forced to use a generally unsupported versions or maybe ESR Release.
-- Ideally Show the Correct Article version including Locale --
Normally on Firefox Desktop the Kitsune version of the article would use the *showfor* to display precisely the correct article. It even went as far as being able to display the correct version for the locale, and from in product hard coded links.

Multiple version pickers in KB articles is a problem that needs a bug report to be filed. Can you file one? Joni, any thoughts at all?
USER STORY
-- As a user --
I expect a KB article to display appropriate information, and to have pickers which are appropriate. I do not want to see non functional pickers for Android, iOS,Firefox OS & Firefox (Desktop).
I also should not easily see and find redirects, and thaty have no need whatsoever for multiple pickers
Example
> https://support.mozilla.org/t5/How-To/Profiles-TB/ta-p/28132
They just add further confusion.
Screenshot of that attached
-- As A KB Writer or Editor --
I want to write an informative article that takes in to account the realities of the end users Firefox or other Products use. Preferably I would like them to see the correctly customised article and the article for their own Locale when thy visit sumo with Firefox. I also want them to be able to customise the article and see the details appropriate to other use cases. For instance a user my be visiting from an Old version of Firefox but needing to find relevant details of the latest Release, or possibly the Windows version instead of the Mac version.
All this worked well in Kitsune.
STR
Search for any KB article.
Ask yourself what pickers does it show.
What Pickers should it show.
And do all the pickers seen have an effect - do they modify the view?
(You may need to clear cookies to see what the new visitor would see)

Having multiple pickers also makes it difficult to review content when it varies for different operating systems. To review Firefox articles with different content for Windows, Mac and Linux you have to change ALL THREE of the version pickers that have options for Windows Mac and Linux or else keep the Firefox picker check-marked and uncheck the others.
For example, this article has a note about using the "Enter" key for Windows/Linux and the "Return" key for Mac:
https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Protect-your-privacy/Insecure-password-warning-in-Firefox/ta-p/27861
If you change the OS to Mac in the Firefox picker but you leave it set to Windows or Linux in the Firefox OS and Thunderbird pickers, you see "Enter Return".
I posted details and screenshots in this comment:

This article does not even display pickers, I am not sure why not.
It does have screenshots or sections displaying 2 to 4 times as incorrect repeats and multiple messed up key entries.
*Password Manager - Remember, delete, change and import saved passwords in Firefox*
>https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Firefox-Display-and-Appearance/Password-Manager-Remember-delete-change-and-import-saved/td-p/2254
That is how the end user will see it.

Lets hope adding to a tracker indicate we are hoping to get something done soon to fix this issue. I just hope having a bug listed in multiple trackers does not lead to a stalemate if has two or more different champions each expecting the other champion to resolve the bug.
It would be good to see bugs getting assigned, and Needs Info flagged comments being replied to.
