Using nightly's compact theme on Mac OS X result in empty space surrounding tabs that doesn't seem to be there on other OS.

Tabs should be closer to the 3 systems buttons on the left, and closer to the fullscreen button on the right.

This is by design. It's to be able to still move (or double click/tap) the window, given that the tabs are flush with the top of the window. This isn't necessary on other OSes because they have functional maximized/restored mode concepts (and we're making the assumption that if you've maximized the window you're less likely to want to drag it).

We're considering providing more UI for drag spacing as part of the Photon project (deps of bug 1325171), but I don't think we'll do anything to change this specifically. If this is somehow critical to your workflow, I would suggest using userChrome.css to remove the extra spacing.
