Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0
Build ID: 20170323110425
Steps to reproduce:
Upgraded from 45.8.0. No other changes. System is running XP SP3.
Actual results:
Font smoothing/Cleartype settings from the system are not respected. After upgrading, Thunderbird appears to default to basic/no font smoothing. This appears to affect all elements of the user interface.
Expected results:
Thunderbird should use the system setting for font smoothing/Cleartype, or at lease use the settings from the previous version (45.8.0).

Please note that the rendering of the user interface uses Mozilla core technology like Firefox. Do the fonts look better in Firefox?
I am also running Firefox 52.0.2 (ESR) and that does not seem to exhibit this behavior. It appears to be Thunderbird-specific.
