User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0
Build ID: 20170413000000
Actual results:
Some of the unified folders doesn't list the e-mails when I click on them, although the respective folders are shown as subfolders of them. This includes the sent and outbox folders on one computer; and the templates, archive and outbox folders on a different computer. Also, when I right click on them and click properties a folder settings dialog pops up.
Expected results:
Other unified folders list the e-mails in them correctly, and when I right click them, and whereas when I right click the folder and click properties a "saved search" settings dialog shows up.

Looks like the unified folders got themselves into a know. Try deleting the "smart mailboxes" folder from your profile. Or better, move that folder elsewhere before deleting it.

OK, that seems to fix it. The outbox hasn't changed though, but from what I can find it's supposed to be like that.
