Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:53.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/53.0 Build ID: 20170504105526 Steps to reproduce: (My UA is Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:53.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/53.0. The problems first appeared one day after the Windows 10 Creators Update, about a month ago.) I opened a new tab (or clicked on a open about:newtab, I'm not sure), saw that the url bar was not active, and pressed F6. Actual results: Sometimes, not every time when I try, the browser freezes for at least two minutes. When I close it, Windows complains that Firefox hangs, so my only choise is a force exit. When I open Firefox again, the restore page comes up and it can restore my tabs correctly. Expected results: The url bar should become activated.

I can reproduce this, but not often. Sometimes there are a few days between freezes, sometimes only a few hours. I'd have to use Firefox with a fresh profile for a week to verify if it still occurs. It's definitely something that did not happen in previous versions, and I use the Ctrl-T and F6 hotkeys a lot throughout the day.
This has also started happening to me a few weeks ago. Random freezes when opening a new tab, possibly also when using F6. Might be the same as bug #1370906 as well. I'm using Firefox 53.0.3 64-bit on Windows 7.
I got a 100% repro case now, even with all add-ons disabled: If any tooltip is shown (e.g. by hovering a HTML tag with a title attribute) and then pressing F6, the browser freezes completely.
This is still happening with Firefox 54.0.1 by the way, 64-bit version on Windows 7.
