There are some links to SUMO from the Page Info panel that redirect to anchor links. Those are working for now, but when we switch back to our new platform, it will no longer be able to support these redirects to anchor links.

This is the page being linked to: https://support.mozilla.org/kb/page-info-window-view-technical-details-about-page

I'd like to suggest a couple of options:

1. Keep these links in the UI. SUMO will create individual articles for these different sections (i.e. General, Security, Media, etc.) so that each will have their own URL that we can redirect to. No changes will be needed on your part, although I'm not certain that users will like seeing separate articles.

2. Just use https://support.mozilla.org/1/firefox/%VERSION%/%OS%/%LOCALE%/page-info in the Page Info UI. This will redirect to one article.

Please let me know what you think is best (need info me) when you'd like my response.
What's the particular problem with redirecting to anchor links on the new platform? It's really the optimal solution here.

If there's no way we can make anchor links work I'm okay with both options. It might be better to keep it in one article, so update the links on our side (note that this will obviously not go to release instantly, though we can uplift to beta if you want to go live soon).

I agree :johannh! There shouldn't be any technical problem with redirecting to anchor links.

I asked :w0ts0n aka Ryan Watson about this a few weeks back. Ryan says based on his knowledge of redirects as used in other Mozilla sites, there *should* be no technical problem with redirecting to anchor links.

However Lithium does have some sort of technical "barrier" to redirecting to anchor links but they haven't told us what it is. And anchor inks are problematic in general. Based on the problematic nature of anchors and Lithium's unspecified anchor redirect technical problem, the SUMO and Firefox teams agreed to remove them.

Cheers!

..Roland

Joni, is this still a valid bug? We aren't switching back to the Lithium platform.
