Used 04-10-06-trunk build Cannot subscribe subfolders(after unsubscribed)which have been created from other's full control privilege folder Setup: Setup one personal folder & other users' folders with full control & read privilege folders from three IMAP accounts as following: 1) From Act huang: Setup one personal folder (huang_huang1full_status) shared with other's (e.g.huang1) folder w/full control privilege. 2) From Act huang1: Created subfolders "huang_huang1full_huang3r"& "huang_huang1_huang3rb" w/read only privilege for Act huang3 Steps: 1) After above setup, huang1 should have full control privilege as huang account. 2) After unsubscribe those subfolders which created from huang1 in Act huang1. 3) Tried to subscribe those subfolders back from the subscribe dialog in Act huang1. 4) Actual Results: Cannot find those subfolders from the subscribe dialog in Act huang1, I cannot subscribe those subfolders back in Act huang1 Subscribe dialog. Expected Results: Should allow to subscribe those subfolders(after unsubscribed)which have been created from other's full control privilege folder
Nominating nsbeta1 since users with full control privilege won't be able to implement anything from these subfolders after they unsubscribed these subfolders..... Reassinging developer to David & QA -> me

Karen, you were going to attach a protocol log, and try this with 4.x - what were the results of those tests?
I tried to access these folders with huang3 and the subscribe ui showed them to me and allowed me to subscribe to them. I can't try your account because I don't have your password, so I'm not sure how to proceeed...if you shut down and restart, can you see those folders in the subscribe ui?
remove myself
Same result even exit and relaunch to Act huang1 account..... I am trying to generate an IMAP log when trying to create the same subfodlers in Act huang1 describing mailboxes existing......
OK, this has nothing to do with shared folders or privileges or anything like that. It happens for plain old normal single user folders too. The problem is that in this scenario, the subscribe ui comes up with the parent folder expanded, but does not list the child folders. If you toggle the parent folder, the sub folders will get listed and you can subscribe to them. I'm not sure on what basis the subscribe ui is coming up with these parent folders expanded, but that's the basic problem.

Summary: IMAP Shared: Cannot subscribe subfolders(after unsubscribed)which have been created from other's full control privilege folder → Cannot subscribe to subfolders after unsubscribing w/o toggling expand/collapse state of parent
It looks to me like the subscribe ui is persisting the expand/collapse state of folders (independently of the folder pane), and that's not going to work because it doesn't list the children of the expanded folders (the listing only happens when you hit the toggle button). My guess is that this has been broken for a long time, unless it was some recent tree/outliner ui changes that broke it. I'll have to ping Seth to find out the story.
Please notice that the following lines are displaying for 4.79 but not displaying for Netscape 6.x: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- imapIOthread IMAP stdout:tintin.mcom.com:A:NET:WR: 12 list "" "Shared Folders/User/huang/%/%"[mkimap4.cpp:10062] imapIOthread IMAP stdout: tintin.mcom.com:A:NET:RD: * LIST (\HasNoChildren) "/" "Shared Folders/User/huang/huang_huang1full_status/huang_huang1_huang3rb" [mkimap4.cpp:10062] imapIOthread IMAP stdout:tintin.mcom.com:A:NET:RD: * LIST (\HasNoChildren) "/" "Shared Folders/User/huang/huang_huang1full_status/huang_huang1full_huang3r" [mkimap4.cpp:10062] imapIOthread IMAP stdout:tintin.mcom.com:A:NET:RD: 12 OK Completed [mkimap4.cpp:10062] --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
yes, those lines correspond to my statement : "it doesn't list the children of the expanded folders". They show 4.x listing the children, whereas 6.x does not. This does not apply to news because news builds up the list of possible newsgroups for subscription differently than IMAP.
after talking to Seth, we've found that the expand/collapse state is being stored in localstore.rdf, and we suspect this has to do with the switch from tree to outliner - Joe, is there a way to make sure the expand/collapse state is NOT persisted? We don't think we're persisting it explicitly in subscribe.xul.
karen / david, any idea how long this has been an issue?
marking nsbeta1- per mail triage.

Seth, I don't know how long this has been broken. Is there any question that the outliner is doing this?
I have very simmilar problem. We have MS Exchange as IMAP server. When I want to subscribe to folders, Mozilla doesn't show me subfolders which are deeper in hierarchy than 2 or 3 levels. Even if I create the subfolders myself and then unsubscribe them they are lost because the subscribe dialog doesn't show them again. It seems to me as the Mozilla stops searching for subfolders at an arbitrary level of hierarchy and then it doesn't show you the deeper ones. Could it be the same bug?
does toggling the parent folder fix the problem? If so, it's the same bug.
This problem is also occurring for those subfolders which created from "Read,Write and Manage Privilege Folder" users: If 'other users' create subfolders from a personal's "Read,Write and Manage Privilege Folder", after 'other users' unsubscribe shared folders from the subscribe dialog, all the created subfolders(from "Read,Write and Manage Privilege Folder" users)will disappear from the subscribe dialog. Users will misunderstand that those subfolders are disappear(data loss)on the subscribe dialog unless they select the twisty on the parent folder again...... David, are you sure that this bug still minus?
Karen, I did not minus this bug. And again, it has nothing to do with shared folders.
Yes. I know this is not specific for IMAP Shared Folders, but if users create subfodlers under the RWMprivilege folder for shared folder, after they unsubscribe and want to subscribe again, they definitely will see this problem and will misunderstand that those subfolders disappear.....

This bug problem is also occurring on Mac platform. But, I found bug 160050 today -- don't know whether it's regression on Linux or not??
Just thought I'd give this bug a "it's been quiet for a year, but it's still there" ping.
dup of bug 220375, I checked in a fix today. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 220375 ***
