news should have plaintext compose as the default.
Are we going to do this? The user sets the pref for the type of compose window
s/he wants and it may be strange to see a different compose window come up for
news (although I understand your reason for wanting to do so).

News should have it's own default.
Nobody posts HTML to newsgroups, I would consider
that not-good netiquette.

I can still reproduce this problem on a new profile and migrated profile using
win32 and linux 2000-01-03-09-m13.
After creating a new profile that contains one news server (nothing else), I
added a newsgroup and started a new message. The html compose window appears.
After migrating a profile, the default compose window that comes up is HTML.
It does not matter if I am viewing a new message or not. I looked at the
prefs.js file and the user_pref for compose_html is set to true on migrated
profiles. On new profiles, there is no user_pref for compose_html which mean the
default is being used.
I used the win32 and linux build found on sweetlou:
ftp://sweetlou/products/client/seamonkey/windows/32bit/x86/2000-01-03-09-M13/sea
monkey32e.exe

M13/netscape-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz
On Mac, due to a profile manager problem, I could only test this on migrated
profile. A hmtl compose window is the default for news.

For new NNTP accounts and new NNTP profiles, plain text compose is default.
For migrated profiles, if the 4.x profile was set to html (there was only one
identity/account and one global formatting pref) any news accounts will get html
compose after migration. I checked with seth about this and that's the way
migrated profiles will be ... what you had is what you get in 5.0/6.0.
OK using 2000-03-07-09m15 commercial builds linux rh6.0, mac OS 9.0, NT 4.0
