[This is essentially UI feedback. I am not sure if Bugzilla is the right place for this; if not, I'd appreciate a pointer.]
With the latest nightly, every time I hit Ctrl-T to open a new tab, an animated slider moves into the new tab page from the bottom, with some hint about how to use Firefox. Since animation immediately draws attention, this is fairly distracting. It is fine for this to happen once, but I was seriously surprised when I used the "X" to get rid of this slider -- and the next time I hit Ctrl-T, *it appears again*. This makes the "X" mostly useless; after all, just hiding it from the new tab page until I leave said page hardly has any effect because the page is typically left quickly.
This behavior does not depend on whether I use a blank new page or one with suggestions.
Either the "X" should permanently disable these hints, or there should be a checkbox like "do not show again" for this purpose.
