Details
I use mozilla to get my office mail via IMAP/SSL. I saved my password, since it
is protected by the master password. The problem is that my employer uses
account locking policies as soon as the password has been entered wrong three
times in a row.
When I change my password in the office (which I have to do regulary), mozilla
does not stop trying to log in after the first attempt with the wrong (old)
password. Instead, it tries three times, sometimes even more, before it gives
up. There is no way to prevent this.
The consequence is that my office account is locked, sometimes for the whole
weekend, which is a very bad thing. Mozilla should mark passwords which seem to
be wrong (either because IMAP, POP3 oder regular HTTP requests get an error
message), and should not try to use these again until the user has entered a new
password.

You are right, it seems that bugs 138801 and 121926 describe the same problem. I
do not know how to correctly mark duplicate bugs, so please be so kind and do
this for me. I think that this is a real problem that needs to be fixed for 1.0
because you cannot get to your mail anymore after you changed your password.

After changing the NT-domain password, the next login to the IMPAP fails, of
cource. But instead of popping up a box to enter the new password, the
mail clients loops trying to log in, until the NT account is disabled.

Why was this reassigned from mailnews to password manager? The repeated logins
are coming from mailnews. Password manager is simply giving mailnews the
password to use, but the actual logging in is being done by mailnews.

Confirm on RC2 (2002051006) on Win2K.
Steps to reproduce, since they're not elsewhere:
1. Save your e-mail password in Password Manager (it's not their fault!)
2. Click "Get Msgs" in Mail/News (it's not their fault either!)
- It should download your mail, as expected
3. Change your e-mail password
4. Click "Get Msgs" again.
Results:
1. Moz displays "The PASS command did not succeed. Mail server
responded: Authentication failed" <OK>
2. I click <OK>
3. Moz displays the same thing again
4. 1. through 3. repeat, seeemingly infinitely
Expected Results: Moz tells me my password is wrong and prompts for a new one.
I hope that clears things up! <g>
