Steps to reproduce:

FF has not played media on any of the MacOS 13 Betas. I have read that v55 should have resolved this but despite trying with a new profile, it has not worked for me.
I cannot play video media on YouTube, Twitter, BBC or any other site.


Actual results:

When trying to play the media, the window simply goes black with a simple error message. See attached example of a Twitter post.

Video should play.

Just an update. Still not working with latest beta release yesterday.
Can you please attach your machine information from about:support? I am not able to reproduce this with 55.0.2 using the latest Beta 7 developer seed on 10.13 (tried videos on youtube, vimeo, etc). I did however, see an issue playing videos with 54.0.1 on those sites.

My machine is a late 2009 iMac 21.5; ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB graphics. I am aware of some others reporting problems but do not know the spec of theirm machines.

Any progreess on this? I know others are still reporting issues playing media such as YouTube.

I haven't seen any other reports of this. I assume if it was widespread we would have had a few duplicate bugs.

Can you please try again with the latest seed and see if it is still happening? Thanks.
It wont be widespread yet as we are still at the Beta testing stage. However, there have been several testers - using different machines - reported issues suggesting that once the OS is released, then you are likely to lose FF users.

I have tried the latest versions and checked with each beta release but it is always the same problem.

can you please post a copy of the output of about:support

try setting the following pref:
media.hardware-video-decoding.enable to false

For YouTube you can set:
media.mediasource.webm.enabled to true
Ok, I tried changing the prefs as suggested. It made no difference to media on Twitter - still would not play. On YouTube, the browser tab crashed.

when you go to about:support use the "copy raw data to clipboard" button, otherwise the content is very hard to read.
My apologies. I have no idea how that reverted to 52. Here is 55. Same issues. Made the changes to the prefs that were suggested and have had some success. Some YouTube content now works. BBC does not work. Twitter does not work. Tumblr does not work.

 Youtube, BBC, Twitter, and Tumblr all works for me: FF 55.0.3, macOS 10.13 (17A365), MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015).

Just checked FF today. V56 update has run and everything now seems to be working for me.
Anyone still can see this problem on 56?
If not, we should close this bug.
I checked 56 today using 10.13 (MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)) and all the sites noted in the first comment work fine. Closing this out out as WFM.
