For the sidebar API it is possible to configure a shortcut in order for people to use their keyboard to switch to the sidebar.
"suggested_key": {
"default": "Ctrl+Shift+H"
}
The problem is that regarding the locale set, the shortcut can already be used by another component or even another add-on.
How is one suppose to find a working shortcut in that context (at least that doesn't impact other Firefox features?) Is there a list of used shortcut somewhere?
Is it possible to create a configuration in the add-on preferences panel to let user change the default shortcut if they have to?
I am also interested in documenting that feature in MDN so that people can have a strategy to find a proper add-on shortcut for their extensions.

Interestingly on MacOS, you can set it at the system level and it works fine.
One small vote against adding one in Firefox.
Does Windows offer something like this?

We are aiming to do bug 1303384 which would allow you to change within the browser so you can customise what short cut goes where. I would suggest duping to that, unless you want to do some docs until that bug is landed.
