Details
STR:
1) Open about:config.
2) Click anywhere to loose focus from the search input on the top.
3) Press Ctrl+F.
Now I would expect to focus the search input again, but instead the regular findbar on the bottom opens, which is completely useless on about:config.

Maybe we should add an automated test, this regressed from bug 1192540, by the looks of it.

... though I should note it wfm on 55 on OSX. Maybe it's a relatively recent regression, then?

Can you clarify when/where this does/doesn't work, maybe with mozregression?

Huh, I actually thought this never worked.
I can reproduce with the latest Nightly on Linux, but not in mozregression, only in my localized installation (even with a clean profile). Is there a way, how to run mozregression with localized builds to check, if this is a regression or not, and if it happens for different locales too?
In case this is a localization issue, do we know, which ".keys" entities can be involved here?

That will be the problem. We have set it to "k" for some reason for the last two years. :(
