I occasionally search for filenames, like "big-optimizable-group-opacity-2500.svg" or "someHighEntropyJsFilename.js", when I'm trying to find the repo that contains them. But, since the merging of the search and address fields, Firefox misinterprets them as domain names, even if the field was entered with the search keystroke (command-option-F), which has apparently not been removed.
I suggest that entering the field with command-option-F should...
1. Interpret the entered text as a search rather than an address
2. Make that visually apparent somehow (perhaps by sticking a magnifying glass icon in the front of the field?)
Of course, you can work around this by placing the search in quotes, but then what is the point of command-option-F?

Making the keystroke behave differently would be an address bar thing. The search issue is in many other bugs:

Moving to address bar. Marking as P5.

we now use the PSL list to distinguish origins, so this should be WFM.
