OK, this issue is a bit tricky to describe, so it was also hard for me to search for duplicates. While testing Thunderbird 56beta I noticed the following irritating behavior (but see it also in trunk builds). If I start Thunderbird (clicked on the icon in the dock, tested on macOS) than Thunderbird opens. But instead of the message pane, it first displays the Account central for half a second and than switches to the message pane. If the Account central is displayed nothing is selected in the folder pane, but after half a second it selects automatically the inbox and displays the message pane.

The normal behavior was (and should be), that it already selects the inbox and displays the message pane at the start, if this inbox was selected at last close of Thunderbird.

I've seen something like this reported before.  I can't find the reference I remember. But I did find bug 1268070

Do you see the same problem in safe mode, and when using 52.3.0?

I updated from 52.3.0 to 56 beta and I did not see this issue in 52.3.0. I have no Addon or theme installed and I don't use any userChrome.css and userContent.css, but interestingly I don't see this in safe-mode.

I just tested 56.0b4 with test profiles in my test accounts on Windows and Linux.

I also see Account Central appear before the Thread pane for the Inbox appears.

I can also confirm it doesn't occur in safe mode.
