This problem was originaly logged as bug 138916. At the time when I file that bug, I pickup "Brower Localization" as the Product. 3 days. No body care to assign it to the right component. Surprised. Anyway, I file the bug again. Here we go. I'm using Mozilla1.0 CR1 on Win2k. Problem: Quite surprised to see that the chinese character in the tilte of the Mozilla window was previously displayed correctly (this was really the nice feature that surpass IE)now was garbled -- Chinese characters are displayed as bunch of question marks. To reproduce: 1. Lanuch Mozilla 1.0 CR1 2. go to: http://www.sina.com.cn/ and select some chinese articles, for example: http://sports.sina.com.cn/n/2002-04-20/20263818.shtml 3. Observe the title Mark this one as "cirtical", there must be some encoding problem in Mozilla.

i don't think this is a mozilla bug. it's probably due to the fact that your system font is not a chinese font. if you view the same page in ie you will likely get the same behavior (i did) -- the title not displaying to characterss not found in the font.

Don't compare to IE. Likey I said, that's the feature in previous Mozilla (0.9.9 at least) that surpass IE. I just want this feature back to 1.0.
It works for me on WoinXP-Simplified Chinese. If you are using a non-SimpChinese OS to read SimpChinese page, you won't able to read title correct - bug 9449. Verified as dup.
