1398837 - Bookmarks toolbar menu is laggy

On macOS, click the Bookmarks toolbar. The favicons start popping in and they're very slow to load and the framerate is noticeably slower when I scroll over items while this loading is happening.

Notes:
- My bookmarks menu is long enough to require scrolling down
- I have a profile which I've had for a while (~2 years? +more with Sync)
- I think most of my bookmarks are in the bookmarks menu because it's the default on desktop

I would provide a video but I'm concerned there could be sensitive info in my bookmarks.

Which version/build of Firefox?
Also, what does "click the Bookmarks toolbar" mean in specific, which part of it? Or is it about showing it?

Sorry, this is FF57 Nightly, from 9/11.

Just showing the bookmarks toolbar causes this slow down: see the attached video. The pop-in, and the lag when hovering over bookmarks items, is more noticeable when traversing the full set of bookmarks rather than the amount I limited in my video (for privacy reasons). Note that history does not have this problem, despite showing favicons (maybe that's why it's limited to a small set of items?).

No, this is a UI problem, unrelated to the backend.
Looks like this is a dupe in the end, based on the video.

The favicons flickering is some graphics problem, unfortunately we don't have good steps to reproduce, see bug 1393313 and if you have good STR please post them there to help investigating.

In the video the bookmarks toolbar is not visible and it's collapsed... Unless you moved somewhere else.
