(Reporter: bugzilla_mozilla, Assigned: jag+mozilla)
Details
3 behaviours I have found consitently using Mozilla 1.0 Release Candidate 1
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; en-US; rv:1.0rc1) Gecko/20020417.
* Tabs will not close. After browsing for a while, some tabs will refuse to
close, I can still navigate in them. Middle clicking, which normally does htis,
doesn't do it, nor does right clicking and selecting close tab.
* Seems to be a problem around the 6th or 7th tab, when you open a link into a
new tab at this position, it stays as a blank untitles page (doesnt even have a
document page inside it) - all other tabs will open after this tab as normal,
you can naviagte in this tab afterwards.
* After the second point occurs, if this tab ever becomes the last tab in the
heirachy, then all other tabs will open before this tab.
I cannot give you exact details, because I usually notice it after a while of
browsing, I did a quick bugzilla search for "Tabs close" and zarro boogs found.
I do not recall having this behavious present in the 0.9.9 build.
of the 3 points...
your point 1) is this a duplicate of bug 140859?
your point 2) these are similar: bug 138963 and bug 137510

-> Tabbed Browser (the next time please one bug / problem)

Thanks for feedback:
In answer : this is bug 140859 :)
I have looked at the two similar bug 138963 and bug 137510 and I haven't noticed
this behaviour, the behaviour I notice is when several links are opened from one
page in succession with the middle button to do this, into a new tab, one of
them will remain untitled.
Actually I have noticed behaviour where you can edit the url bar, but the tab
doesnt go there however ctrl enter will spawn a new window which you can
navigate with, and iirc the window which didnt repond to new URL events was
closable.
Seperately, seemingly unrelated, I cannot close a tab (it was in position 2 at
the time, there were more tabs open, including one which always stuck on the
end)
And thirdly as I mentioned just now, one tab which sticks to the end, I have a
feeling this is the tab which was untitled, but I could navigate to it, and
after opening more windows after this tab, when it becomes the last in the row
after that, it seems to stay the last.
I have a sneaking feeling that this is due to the use of the middle button.
In terms of being able to reproduce this behaviour, I went to /. opened a heap
of links, closed them, opened them, and no windows failed to open the correct
location, or remain unclosable.
But I do not remeber seeing this before rc1.
Apologies for the vagueness of my report. This is a fairly common occurance for
me after browsing with the same window all day, so I thought people would know
what I am talking about! :D The quirks usually have thier work arounds though.
Also a quick note, when there are more than one tab open, the tab border is 2
pixels, one there is only one, there is only one pixel border, if someone thinks
this matters you may file a bug with reproducable 100% open mozilla with tabs
showing when only one page open, follow some links, note the 2 pixels, close
some tabs, one pixel space, the whole page jumps up.
I would really like to dig my fingers into this tabbing system, but alas my time
is spent in java land these days.

Perhaps unrelated, perhaps not - I'm writing this from a tab that won't close,
but I can follow links and use bookmarks (quicklinks, too) from it.
This tab appeared one from the end of my tabs when I right-clicked, "open in a
new tab" on a link.
Runnnig Windows XP Home, and the Mozilla Build: 2002053012.
I could close the tab to the right of this, haven't tried the ones to the left yet.
So no, this isn't necessarily caused by the middle mouse button.

This happens to me on a regular basis as well. Currently I have a tab that will
not close. I originally saw it as an unopened document among several other tabs
I had created by middle clicking on links. The tab behaves normally in all ways
except that it will not close via the x button or by right clicking and
selecting close tab. It is the last tab in my list, however other newly opened
tabs are still created at the end of the list. This is on a Redhat 7.2 install
using 1.1alpha (build ID: 2002061108)

aghr! forget to say the rest: confirmed with 2002073022 on Linux and saw it from
time to time before. You can now at least use this tab.

I see something similar (probably the same) fairly often (but not at the 6th or
7th, as described in comment 0):
1. After some browsing, one new tab I open will not open as last one, but second
to last.
2. The document in it does not load - the URL stays to be the title of the tab.
I cannot use the tab anymore either (i.e. I cannot load another document in there).
3. The tab won't close.
4. New tabs will from now on open before the malfunctional tab, i.e. as third to
last one. IIRC.
My browsing habits: Middleclick on links, Middleclick opens in new tab, tabs
load in background, new windows blocked.
Version: Mozilla 1.0, but also observed long before that.
This bug is quite prominent, there are probably other bugs filed about it (maybe
even I filed one?).

While I can't close tab (in 2002092511/trunk/W2K, I'm getting this JS error:
Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code:
0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE) [nsIWebProgress.removeProgressListener]"
nsresult: "0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE)" location: "JS frame ::
chrome://global/content/bindings/tabbrowser.xml#tabbrowser.removeTab() ::
removeTab :: line 32" data: no]
If I try to reload, I'm getting this:
Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code:
0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIWebNavigation.reload]" nsresult: "0x80004005
(NS_ERROR_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame ::
chrome://global/content/bindings/tabbrowser.xml#tabbrowser.reloadTab() ::
reloadTab :: line 5" data: no]
And finally, when I click on some link, I'm getting this error:
Error: listener has no properties
Source File:
chrome://global/content/bindings/tabbrowser.xml#tabbrowser.onLinkAdded()
Line: 36
Hope this should help.

I can confirm an uncloseable tab on Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US;
rv:1.1) Gecko/20020827. First time it's happened to me and I use tabs constantly.
I too am getting JS errors:
Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code:
0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE) [nsIWebProgress.removeProgressListener]"
nsresult: "0x80070057 (NS_ERROR_ILLEGAL_VALUE)" location: "JS frame ::
chrome://global/content/bindings/tabbrowser.xml#tabbrowser.removeTab() ::
removeTab :: line 31" data: no]

One bug per issue. The first issue is a dupe of bug 137477.
For the other issues, take them to other bugs.
