1410806 - Long pauses/beachball on use of keyboard shortcuts on macOS High Sierra

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_13) AppleWebKit/604.1.38 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/11.0 Safari/604.1.38

Steps to reproduce:

1. Upgrade to macOS High Sierra (10.13 Supplemental update)
2. Run Thunderbird 52.4.0 (64 bit)
3. Use any keyboard shortcut (e.g. cmd+N)


Actual results:

7-8 second pause and beachball, before shortcut processed (e.g. new mail window opens)


Expected results:

Shortcut should be processed near instantly.

I think this may be the same problem as the Firefox bug #1408203.

I will attach a trace from "Sample process" using Activity Monitor.

@Wayne - just wanted to check - are you sure this is a duplicate as that bug is Firefox not Thunderbird... many thanks!

Thunderbird uses Firefox's core code so, yes, I am fairly confident it is the same issue.  Time will tell. :)

Just to confirm, like the Firefox issue, this is resolved by macOS 10.13.1

I still experience this bug with 
Thunderbird 52.6.x and 52.7.0
macOS High Sierra 10.13.3 (17D102)
MacBook Pro Late 2013.

What keyboard activity specifically? And does same action using menues (rather than keyboard) no reproduce the problem?
Gone with beta from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/channel/ ??

Hey Wayne,

sorry for the delay!

There was a macOS update to 10.13.4 this weekend.
With this update there are no more delays when using keyboard shortcuts.

My Thunderbird version is still 52.7.0 (release channel).

May be the macOS update fixed some things.
Will keep an eye on it.
