Details
Mozillas ongoing search strategy is to select the best search experience in each region. But the best search experience might not just depend on the region of the user, but also the intent of the user.
When a user is in an the private browsing mode their intent is to browse the internet in a somewhat privately manner.
By changing the default search engine in private mode (for regions where it would give a better search experience) to DuckDuckGo the user can safely search knowing that they are not being tracked, and thus give them a better search experience.

At the very least, we might give the user a different engine in private browsing mode.
