141923 - Help file for IE converts

IE 6 has a wonderful help file called "For Netscape Users". I found it
very helpful when I was first trying IE. It includes:

1) Similarities and differences between IE and Netscape, including
   terminology used (Refresh vs Reload etc.)

2) How to do in IE the things you often do in Netscape.

3) Things you can do in IE that you can't do in Netscape.

It would be nice if Mozilla had a similar help file, which would guide
IE users into Mozilla so they would not feel a need to go back to IE.

It would also subtly introduce them to Mozilla's beliefs on Open Source
and the use of open standards.

Heh. Write it and they will come?

The help file is getting some momentum. See recent postings on the newsgroup
netscape.public.mozilla.documentation for the helpfile project that's just
taking off.

Further suggestion for this bug:

* Help for Netscape 4 users (I suspect Netscape will use this if we write it!)
* In the Mail/News component, Help For OE Users and Help for Netscape 4 Users

Presumably we could go through the relevant products' helpfiles and write
suitable crossing-over material based on them.

By the way, when I did Internet tech support, OE had one of the finest help
files I'd seen on a general-consumer product - that is, I would put completely
computer-illiterate new users onto it, because it was actually *helpful*. That
is the standard of helpfile we should aspire to for new users. (Pity the
product itself is so awful ;-)

Bamm,

It is currently assigned to Ian. Since you are already working on it, it is okay
with me if you take it, but I would ask Ian first.

About the outline: I will let you know if something occurs to me. I am currently
thinking about making an outline for a migration guide for Netscape 4.x users,
with answers to questions commonly asked in the newsgroups. I am collecting that
information now.
