User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Fedora; Linux x86_64; rv:50.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/50.1
Build ID: 20171113102034

Steps to reproduce:

Firefox 57

Visit any page with an input text field in a form that you've visited before, for example try https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/

Click the search input field on that page, type a couple of letters that activate the formfill feature that makes a popdown appear with strings you've typed in previously. I type in "th" to test.

Actual results:

The popdown that appears showing the previously-entered strings appears partially or fully over the text field, obscuring what you are typing, sometimes fully. This makes it nearly impossible to type in a new long string (since you can't see it for typos, etc). See attached picture.

Also, with the popdown in the wrong place, mouse clicks and hovers on it are messed up, especially in the case when there is only one item in the popdown and you want to click it to use it (fill it into the field). You have to move the mouse out of the popdown and back in before it highlights correctly.

Expected results:

Popdown should appear fully below the text input field. It should not obscure the field at all.

This worked perfectly for Firefox 1 through maybe 54, 55 or 56. Somewhere around 53-56 this bug started occurring. I hoped 57 would fix it, but it is unchanged.

I must disable formfill in config completely to have usable forms.

versions:
Linux kernel-4.13.12-200.fc26.x86_64
Firefox 57.0 as provided by Fedora firefox-57.0-2.fc26.x86_64
sawfish-1.12.90-1.fc26.x86_64
xfce4-session-4.12.1-10.fc26.x86_64
I should mention I am using X, not wayland:

xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.19.3-4.fc26.x86_64
gtk3-3.22.21-2.fc26.x86_64
Component: Untriaged → Layout: Form Controls
OS: Unspecified → Linux
Product: Firefox → Core
Priority: -- → P3
Also, the right-click context menu comes up about 1 entry higher than it should. If I right-click on a link and immediately let go without moving the mouse, instead of the menu staying up so I can click on it, it auto-selects "open link in new tab" because it is directly under the cursor, instead of a few pixels down where it should be. It appears anything that pops up a popdown/contextmenu is using the same code routine and choosing the wrong placement.
Severity: normal → S3
