We have less technical people that subscribe to the enterprise working group mailing list and regularly need help from admins to unsubscribe. We think that this is probably because the wording on the organizations page (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/) describes subscribing to the mailing list as a necessary step to download Firefox ESR. We want to remove the Step 1 and Step 2 sections, the new content is attached to this bug as HTML.
We could also add more content to explain ESR or just merge the FAQ ( https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq/ ) and this page to have a single page.

Maybe we could also just replace the form to subscribe to the ML to the mailman page. This is ugly and scary enough that people who don't know what it is about won't subscribe?
Y(In reply to Sylvestre Ledru [:sylvestre] from comment #2) > Maybe we could also just replace the form to subscribe to the ML to the > mailman page. This is ugly and scary enough that people who don't know what > it is about won't subscribe? You are on the right track [1]. tb-enterprise has the same issue. People signed up who don't know how the heck to get off, and people signed up who shouldn't be there - sometimes don't enough know how they got there. Several months ago I was shocked to see tb-enterprise with well over 1,000 subscribers - well out of proportion to the message traffic if those "admins" were inquisitive (as they should be), and certainly more than I was expecting given that we see so few admins engaged in other venues (bugzilla, support lists, planning lists, etc). So a few months ago I changed tb-enterprise to require admin approval for subscriptions and now personally email two simple questions to each request. I get anywhere from 10-20 requests per week. What I found is a) many don't speak English (not good for an English language list), b) less than 1 in 10 replied (i.e. not interested enough to reply) c) of the very few that replied at least 50% were not admins. In short, less than 1 in 20 were good subscription candidates! [1] I am waiting for https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/organizations/ to have the form removed and changed to point to it https://mail.mozilla.org/listinfo/tb-enterprise - and you can see how I already changed the subscription page.
Here's the draft of the revised ESR page I've already shared with :sylvestre and :pascalc. https://docs.google.com/document/d/11uA-Cab1FwfC77_BJQmwuUB7Ndg5lxbuPuibxq__1k0 Key takeaways: * Merge the FAQ page into the main ESR landing page * Replace "users" with "system administrators" to exclude ESR end users from the target audience * Clarify that newsletter subscription is optional * Remove the EWG newsletter sign-up form * Remove the Firefox newsletter sign-up form
Please review the updated page. Modified the layout to accommodate the combined FAQ. As seen in my draft, I'm adding Bug 748640 as a ridealong because it's still relevant. Does it work? https://screenshots.firefox.com/lUwglCpTWahzqgkZ/127.0.0.1

Great presentation, much better! thanks

Looks good to me, we should not forget to set up a 301 redirect on the faq page to the main page. The og:title and og:description metadata should also use the new updated text. While we are at it, should we use the new colors and style of download buttons as in https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ ?

For what it's worth, it looks fine to me as well - it certainly resolves my concerns with the current page (as voiced on the Enterprise mail list) Thanks
Thanks James, we appreciate your participation and support!
(In reply to Pascal Chevrel:pascalc from comment #7) > Looks good to me, we should not forget to set up a 301 redirect on the faq > page to the main page. Yes, a 301 redirect has been set. > The og:title and og:description metadata should also use the new updated > text. I'll remove "Overview" from the title as the FAQ is gone. Actually the current FAQ page also says "Overview" so this title has been confusing. Firefox Extended Support Release for Your Organization, Business, Enterprise - Overview -> Firefox Extended Support Release for Your Organization, Business, Enterprise For the page description, I'll use a modified version of the first body paragraph so it will be under 160 characters: Firefox ESR is intended for groups who deploy and maintain the desktop environment in large organizations such as schools, governments and businesses. -> Firefox ESR is intended for system administrators who deploy and maintain desktop environment in organizations such as universities, governments and businesses. > While we are at it, should we use the new colors and style of download > buttons as in https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ ? I think the colour scheme is okay here because ESR is not Quantum yet. We could perhaps redesign the entire page when ESR 59 comes in March 2018.
Will send a pull request shortly.
Summary: Change Organizations page content to make it clear that subscribing to the enterprise mailing list is optional → Change ESR page content to make it clear that ESR is for sysadmins and mailing list subscription is optional
Correct page description, 159 characters: Firefox ESR is intended for system administrators who deploy and maintain the desktop environment in organizations such as schools, governments and businesses.
I have proposed to also add a detailed description of how to unsubscribe from the enterprise list somewhere on a FAQ page (https://mail.mozilla.org/private/enterprise/2017-November/008180.html). Now that the FAQ is going to be merged into this single page, a suitable place would be at the bottom left, immediately after "What is the Enterprise mailing list?". I would propose to add a section "How to unsubscribe from the Enterprise mailing list" with a description of the exact procedure with confirmation links sent to the subscribed address. I have also asked the list-owners of the enterprise list if a link to such an FAQ entry could be added to the email footer of the list, but I haven't received any reaction yet. Anyhow, the existence of such an FAQ entry would be a prerequisite for the link to be added.
Just wondering when this page update will go live? Thanks
Probably next week
