Probably related:
When I'm prompted for my password in mail I do not see caret in the input line
after starting to write.

This is working fine for me. Terri, can you reproduce this?

I'm using 2002051208 on Win98, and I also experience this problem.
In addition to Mail passwords, it also occurs on sites that request
authentication (with .htaccess/.htpasswd files).

I think this is a dup of bug 143959. However that bug is marked linux, but
perhaps it's more general.
In any case, if you feel it's not a dup, than reopen this one.

Not at all ! This is not the same thing. I encounter this bug when I try to
enter username and password to a newly choosen newsgroup on my local news-server.
Reopening it so :-)

reporter: reopening it just because you feel like it isn't a good reason. please re-resolve it as a dupe if the nightly build from later today/tomorrow doesn't have this problem -- which i expect it won't.

Close it as a dupe, but I bet you, bug will be again alive. Using only trunk. We
should see...

This is precisely the same bug.... From the opening comment of bug 143959:
This affects at least the following prompt dialogs: prompt() from JS, Basic
Authentication for HTTP, login to mailserver for mailnews. Once a basic
prompt has been posed for any of these purposes, no prompt dialog can be typed
in.
which includes the situation you are describing (it was one of the things I
tested before filing bug 143959).
